Here we are with the official debut of Roots Underground Records on black wax, entrusted to the Italian producer, composer and DJ, SofaTalk. This chemical reaction of black influences brings the intent of treating broken rhythms, pervaded by a jazz lure, where software‐made electronic combines with living instruments such as sounds from acoustic drums and analogue synths. The A side intro "Contains Sulfites" for a slow fleecy beat made of hip‐hop scraps, liquid textures and jazzy undertones; no headache here, just a little tipsy to quicken our step in the "Dance Of The Cranes", lolloping by fleet‐footed highs and lows toward the house borderline. On the flip, both title tracks arrive as a broken beat trip where SofaTalk emphasizes he's a delver of rhythmic who moves in triplets and backbeats, right to wiggle out of a 4‐to‐the‐floor constraint; then dopes you softly with the "Fairy Dust" sung by Kris Tidjan, which surrounds by the warm soul blanket of a black mellow voice. Proper sound to start the new label path through vinyl grooves.

[RU001V] SofaTalk - Fairy Dust EP

Italian based Roots Underground Records is always seeking hot talents in the contemporary electronic scene and for its  second  vinyl  release  takes  a  trip  to  Japan  to  meet  the  soulful  addicted  Fuminori  Kagajo:  a  DJ,  producer,  also involved in band projects, whose sound appeared on well-respected house imprints such as Fatsouls Records, Trippin Records, Slip'N'Slide, King Street Sounds, just to mention a few.

The  guy  from  Sapporo  delivers  a  four-track  EP  moving  through  a  so  delightful  sound  synergy  made  of  US'  house-inspired backbones, 70's funk allure and jazz-fusion treatments, helped by stunning musicians as the keyboards wizard Takuto Kudo, the bass player Sei Takeuchi,  and the horns of Kengo Ono (Alto sax), Mutsumi Takeuchi (Tenor  sax), Kogo Takeuchi (Baritone sax), Yasunori Sugo (Trumpet). 70’s-influenced ivories permeate both tunes on the A side: while the title-track “Chase Down” is driven by a percussive mantra along with keyboards in hot pursuit to support the rhythm section; “Aggregation” takes shape from a deep train pattern  and  sets  the  keys  free  to  stand  above  by  highly  dynamic variations.  Amazing  opening  on  the flip  side  with  a fast-paced  joyful  tropicalia: “The  Tropics”  comes  as  an  Afro-Latin  evocation  which  sees  a  massive instrumental intervention of the Kagajo’s trusty ensemble and especially the four-element brass section brings to the track a certain nice retro flavour. Closing the record with “Depth Of The Forest”, we’re back to more contemporary feelings of house deepness crossed by a must-have bright keyboards solo.

Roots Underground continues its travel deep down in the vaults of quality dance music, releasing UNO EP, the debut of hystorical Tuscan dj, producer & MC, @Herreraprod. 
Known for his hip hop production for italian and american artists since the early '90s, and for his participation with the turntables collective " I Maniaci Dei Dischi". 
On this release  he gifts us an unexpected "house" record, along the best tradition of music "made in Chicago/Detroit". 
The opener, Pojama (A1), starts things off with warm and soothing piano chords, interlaced with synth phrases and supported by a broken beat and a boogie bassline. 
Datz Koreas (A2) has electric piano samples filtered, in a classic house manner, and played with the MPC. 
The B side has deep jazzy feelings with Ramsey’s House (B1), born from the collaboration of Rico with musicians @Brothermartino (Flute), Filippo Guerrieri (Electric Piano, Oberheim OB-8) and Paolo “Peewee” Durante (Electric Piano, Clavinet). 
The closing track isOne for Ron (B2) a tribute track to the Chicago living legend Ron Trent, and Herrera with his MPC gives birth to a real dancefloor banger that every Prescription fan will love.

Essential Roots #5 ---Frequency Modulation

Roots Underground is at its 6th release, with this new sophisticated EP.
A collab between italian producer, but Berlin based, Luca Murgia a.k.a. TWO THOU and the jazz ensemble HOBBY HORSE, composed by Dan Kinzelman, Joe Rehmer and Stefano Tamborrino.

Feats are very present throughout the whole record, like in the exotic broken beat opener THE CHASE (A1), where Eric Demuro bass licks intertwine with Kinzelman's flute and Two Thou beats.
INDIA SCI-FI (A2) is a sultry ambient painting, enriched by balearic flavours, courtesy of Mike Matias, sending the listener in a dreamy altered state.
The B side opens with a collaborative rework, CASCADE (B1) by Two Thou with Brooklin's Eric Porter, better known as Afrikan Sciences of an already released track by HOBBY HORSE (Helm, 2018)
Porter lays the drums and Two Thou morphs the hypnotic double bass/bass clarinet loop in a solid organic "house" track, with deep and dubby vibes, that will be appreciated by picky clubgoers everywhere.
The EP includes also the original version of CASCADE ( B2)

Dj, guitarist and music producer Lorenzo Morresi debuts on Roots Underground records for the label first 2020 release. Roots Underground will also have a new look after a restyle for the occasion.
This EP is a homogeneous and compact analog production, inspired largely by the magnificent naturalistic images taken by photographer Sebastiao Salgado in Genesis (2013). 
First track is Gallery (A1) featuring Tenderlonious on flute (22a Records founder). Jazzy House with aetherial atmospheres and a bass line with vibes of summer festivals. 
Second track is Abantu (A2) - tribal choirs samples brilliantly framed on a jazz-funk arrangement.
Emotional Crash Test Dummies (B1) opens the B side. A distincitive disco sound which perfectly suits with Lorenzo’s guitar style, a psychedelic touch and a sure grip on sweaty dancefloors.
Deep Down (B2) closes the EP on hyperspace directions. Abstract hip hip, soul, jazz, funk, all wisely mixed by Lorenzo. Delight for contemporary warm enveloping west coast sound lovers.

Passenger, aka Andrea di Maggio,  is a producer and dj based in Torino. Label Manager at ICON of DESIRE record label, dedicated to deep techno and electro.
Dj resident for the 'Boogie Nights' parties and Jazz:Re:Found Festival, some of his disco edits are published by Light Touches Records.

He says: 

"The more they spread wide and in several directions, the more the roots are solid and firm, the more they absorb in order to grow.

The nice people at Roots Underground kindly asked me to provide a mix exploring my musical 'roots'. It was a hard task to focus since I had several 'influence' periods, depending on the place i was living, the people i met, the moods and the curiosity. I could have explored and exposed my years in the countryside with their healthy dose of italian indie bands (CRX!), or my radio days rich in London vibes, or my early clubbing days devoted to broken beat and disco, etc, each with a distinctive texture of sounds and moods.
But still, I must admit that the strongest influence on my taste came from the moment I discovered Techno: one day mister Laurent Garnier was hosted at B-Side radio programme and played Carl Craig's 'Desire'. I fell off the chair and a new chapter started.
So, for this mix I selected some tracks that spontaneously come to mind when I think about that voracious period of discovery and that sublime sensation of wonder that they bring."

Legend Alton Miller joins Roots Underground
for his eighth vinyl release, and he does it in the
usual stylish way that has always distinguished
him in his nearly 30-years career.

From the Future is an EP composed of 3 tracks denoted
by arrangements decidedly more electronic than its latest
productions. It opens with Crossing (A), an irresistible club
tool of over 9 minutes with a “deep & techy” atmosphere

and synthetic side of this prolific Afro-american producer.
The B Side starts with The World needs Love (B1).
Spiritual house music, ethereal keyboards, impending arpeggios and a vocal sample that adds a certain emotion
to the track, in addition to naming it: 8 minutes of pure
Miller’s style. 
Brooklyn (B2) closes the B side with its
rhythm full of latin percussions and sounds that remind
to early NYC house music, without being nostalgic and
making that same feeling relevant to the current scene.
The graphic design of this EP is consistent with the new
style of the label, opened with Lorenzo Morresi’s EP
(RU007V), and this time it features the suggestive Greenstone
(Chrolastrolite) of the State of Michigan.
