The B-side of this humorously titled release is hands down one of my favourite tracks of all time, and definitely my favourite Levon Vincent creation. One of the few records that I can honestly say is well worth the high marketplace price, though I hope my copy gives me years of play! There's really no fitting description for this shifting chugger; it's a totally melodic and dubby slice of techno with a nice, subtle tinge of house-y-ness. It keeps going and going, with every element in its perfect place. Lots of reverb and warped sounds that build a series of layered loops from some ultimately quite simple components. For me that's the mark of perfection: a fugue-like cycle that plays on a perfect kick, bass drum, etc. And did I mention there are some VERY fat synth chords? Oh, and I just listened to it again and must add that there are some sweet pitched up lasers. I've always had a soft spot for the sound of lasers! Mmmmmm, Woman Is The Devil indeed.

Douglas Greed has dedicated his latest track to those dancefloor prowlers and lead by the tongue-in-cheek vocal the track is quiet the dancefloor bomb. 

The guys at the label felt the need to put it out as quickly as possible and so decided that they'd create an exclusive offshoot imprint for this one. 

Initially to be released on a limited run of 300 x vinyl, the three track ep will eventually see a digital release later this year.... 

So here we go with DOUGI 01!

Rich Jones makes a welcome return to Soma with his follow up the successful ‘Depth Charge’ EP released back in 2011. This time Rich hit us with a more refined, darker sound with 4 tracks of pure Techno lined with pulsating drums and deep synth work

Title track Archaic Revival starts with a solid groove and a hypnotic synth line that builds slowly and bubbles under the surface. The synth starts to open up as hats start to wash over the mix, setting the pace for the track. Raw old school claps and further hats drop in to enhance the techno vibe. Whispering reverbs creep in as the pace is brought back down in the middle for a short break down before the synth opens up and hats enter again to drive the track home.

The second track Solstice starts out with a more complex rhythm with dark percussion evolving throughout. A deep melodic synth line starts to flow into the track creating an early morning dance floor vibe. By the middle of the track you cannot help but be locked into the tracks melodic groove, perfect for those small hours of the morning.

Demonic Intervention come straight from the depths. A deep kick and growling synths create a dark feeling, forcing the tension straight through you. Pitched 909 hats help to drive this track down that highway to hell!

Biotope rounds the EP out perfectly and definitely has more of a house vibe to it. A stabby synth line sets the tone from the get go before nice airy hats jump in and keep the pace going. Like the rest of the EP nice raw sounding claps flutter through the track creating an excellent dance floor builder.

Rich Jones turns in another solid EP for Soma which shows a definite maturity in his sound.

Like Brassaï, Roger Semsroth has spent the last decade trawling the shadows and writing in the dark. But where the seamy streets of nocturnal pre-WWII Paris provided the canvas for Brassaï’s widely heralded photography, it’s the sonic sluices of post-war Berlin and from the self-contained netherworlds of the city’s underground techno nexus that Sleeparchive derives from. After spending five years stealthy developing the project through a series of bi-annual and hand-stamped set of releases, eked via his eponymous imprint, in 2011 Sleeparchive joined Tresor with ‘Ronan Point’—an EP of tracks constructed directly from material from Semsroth’s live set. Now comes more fresh works from the master of haunting, compelling minimalism in this first instalment of a two-part EP for the label.

Taking its title from one of Brassaï’s famous sequence of prints, ‘A Man Dies In The Street’ translates the eight snapshots of a man collapsing on a Parisian sidewalk (captured by Brassaï in 1932) into a chilling storyboard of subtle fluctuations, ebbs and monochrome tones. As ever the genius is in the reductive palette, that here Semsroth paints into a rich splay of emotions mimicking the initial anxious discovery of the body, the curiosity of the gathering crowd, the excitement and building anticipation through to an aggressive and pummelling sense of realisation on the close. But is it at the loss of life, or the loss of spectacle? As Brassaï toys with ambiguity in his photographs, Sleeparchive’s music is just as hazy, deep and full of shady nuances that, like treasure, only appear if you’re willing to keep probing.

Chris Spero (otherwise known as UK house and techno producer Glimpse) and Hypercolour co-founder and producer, Alex Jones, return once again as Dense & Pika to the Hotflush fold with ‘Move Your Body Back.’

Having crept out of the shadows back in 2011 with a collection of white labels released through their own eponymous imprint, Dense & Pika went on to bolster their rising profile with the release of their Hotflush debut (‘Crispy Duck') which landed late last year as well as with their memorable live set at Hotflush's recent Boiler Room Takeover. 

There is nothing chin-strokingly complicated or needlessly over-worked about their productions. They make interesting techno aimed at the dance floor and ‘Move Your Body Back,’ continues with this central aesthetic. The three track EP plunders percussive depths by way of stern machine rhythms, swollen low-end grit and the echoing, anthemic elements of warehouse rave techno.

The title track of the EP may already be familiar to many having appeared on their Resident Advisor podcast in March and is already being played out by Maya Jane Coles, Boddika and Adam Beyer, amongst others.
