Brothers Harvey and Ryan McKay return to Drumcode with their dynamic Alias project.

We were introduced to Alias last year when the McKay brothers dropped the impact-heavy ‘Visions’ EP mid-way through 2017. The duo followed with a lauded contribution for Drumcode Live and the buzz from fans was palpable. The follow up sees the pair in powerhouse form. 

The title track ‘NRG’ is an attitude-packed tour de force; compromised of aggressive snares, warped vocals and a tension-filled break, it has been smashed by Adam Beyer for the last six months. ‘Orange Sunshine’ pulls no punches as it dishes out apocalyptic acid paired with the sibling’s startling drum work. ‘The Event’ rounds out the EP and is an exhilarating affair propelled by uplifting synth lines and a buzzing energetic bassline.

Classical business: things don't get much more foundational than Marvellous Caine's original IQ imprint. Home to a whole gamut of gully slingers between 1994 - 95, here the label reflects on some of the label's many original jungle and hardcore conquests. And considering the label was only in operation for two years, it had many conquests including a very early outing from Andy C and Ant Miles under their Desired State alias ("Hello Lover (Remix)"), early cuts from Dillinja ("Sax Into The Night") and DJ Hype with his own remix of "Hello Lover". Elsewhere we can physically hear the tempo rising with cuts like Back 2 Basic's string-sizzled "Oh Yeah" and of course Captain Caine himself under his Badman guise. What a history lesson!

Episode 76: Tombstone Ghost Town

Jay walks us through one of the most famous locations of the Wild, Wild West: Tombstone.

1. Tombstone is a historic city in Arizona, founded in 1879 by prospector Ed Schieffelin. (Silver Mining!)
2. Its population grew from 100 to around 14,000 in less than seven years. (It’s best known as the site of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral!)
3. A woman in a long white dress has also been spied on Tombstone streets. (Seamstress!)
4. Big Nose Kate’s Saloon. (That’s what it’s really called. Oh, And it’s haunted.)
5. The Birdcage is reputed to be one of the most haunted places in Tombstone: allegedly continuing to host as many as 31 ghosts. (SNEAK PEEK: two prostitutes got into a brawl, and one got the upper hand by repeatedly stabbing the other in her chest with the sharp heel of her stiletto.)
