"Almost" was concieved as a musical experiment, to see how expressive I could be in a very limited tonal language. It is performed by the Composers Sinfonietta at Berklee College of Music in the Spring of 2022.

This piece was originally performed at the wedding of Don Turman (my grandfather) and Carol Greenspan at Brooks-Howell Home in Asheville, North Carolina on March 9th, 2024. The composition took place while I was contemplating partnership and the concept of a "soulmate".

Method

“The Cage” is a contemporary classical chamber piece for Flute, Alto Saxophone, Violin and Double Bass. It was inspired by a horrifying interview I came across on Oprah Winfrey’s YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/GVMna-2_ZM8 The young woman being interviewed spent 7 years of her childhood trapped in a dog cage by her abusive parents in a dark, cold Wisconsin basement. When writing this piece, I imagined myself as this innocent girl, and out poured fear, misery and insanity. 

This piece was performed remotely in April 2020 by Danielle Yao (flute), Fern Perera (violin), Adrienne Schoenfeld (double bass) and Ross Turman (alto saxophone)
