This was a collaboration between 2 BBC talent development schemes - Sound First and Words First - “collaborate to create new sound-worlds of spoken word and sound design”.

I admire Anna's effortless ability to weave her family’s personal story with the political history and conflict in Cyprus whilst communicating her own thoughts. In my opinion, Anna’s words carry so much power and her message of unity is increasingly becoming, if not arguably the most important message to the world at the moment - it was truly an honour to sound design her poem.

We Are Not Divided for Between The Ears on BBC Radio 3

In mid-2023, I was privileged to win a place on the prestigious BBC Sound First scheme. I composed bespoke music and sound designed a poem for my submission. My piece was chosen by a panel of BBC executives and producers, among them the esteemed sound designer, Benbrick.

My audio piece features a poem by the highly-regarded Emily Berry. Inspired by the cadence of her voice, I composed a gentle, drifting piano arrangement to match her words. For ambience, I added a bright and expansive droning pad, breathing life into the composition. I finally integrated some strategic sound effects, ensuring that each element served to enhance the poem without overwhelming the voice.

I was delighted to contribute a soundscape commemorating the 100-year anniversary of the Shipping Forecast being broadcast on the BBC. This audio piece was featured on a special edition of Front Row, and was recorded in front of a live audience at the iconic Cutty Sark in London, adding to the occasion's magnitude.

While researching and exploring artistic concepts for the soundscape, I discovered how important the Shipping Forecast is to many people, and most notably how it helps people in getting to sleep. This notion of the Shipping Forecast serving as the nations lullaby really resonated with me, becoming the central inspiration for shaping my composition.

It was an honour to be a part of this historical moment and to be featured alongside other incredibly talented poets, authors and musicians.

BBC Shipping Forecast Soundscape for Front Row on BBC Radio 4

Moments is an ongoing series exploring the intersection of field recordings and ambient improvisation. Each piece emerges organically, shaped entirely by the captured sounds of my travels - allowing the environment itself to dictate tempo, texture, dynamics, and structure.

Rather than imposing a traditional song format, I embrace intuition, responding instinctively to the sonic landscape. I invite spontaneity and limitation, developing my sense of what feels right in the moment.

For me, Moments is about letting go of expectation and rigidity. Instead, it is immersing in the unpredictable beauty of sound as it unfolds.
