A pair of quick duets on a VAST Celtic-scale handpan with a group of cicadas, who were positively Jammin'(!) on a hot August day, between Woodstock and Saugerties, New York.

Sounds from Woodstock, NY: the waterfall at Tannery Brook off Tinker Street; Debussy, on the other side, warming up; the rock footbridge leading to the Magic Meadow; and the amazing 4-riff songbird(?)

One of these Mystery Bug Musicians found its way into the kitchen a couple years back, and I was able to record it in the middle of the night as it sang for a solid hour with only the occasional pause.  
 
It has an amazing song of one very high note rapidly repeated over a long period of time.  For me, it provides a uniquely alert frame of mind.  But what is this fantastic bug artist?  I hope to find out.
 
For this track, I took two different recordings of the same one and multitracked them, to recreate the effect of pairs of them outside, and added a cricket who also came for a stay.  All the musicians performed both gratis and unrehearsed.  Also the train that roars and clatters by at the end.

Update: 
I believe that's a Wood Thrush, thanks to Merlin Bird ID, from Cornell U.'s great collection.  
But it was fun, too, for it to be a mystery to me for so long.  In a way it gives you a different slant on the song, because without a known label you're more simply and directly experiencing that music.

The so-far mysterious bird with a song of four separately warbled, 2 or 3 note riffs.  Someone knows what this bird has been named (by humans, in other words), and we certainly hope they see this. Natural curiousity aside, this is so I can give it the appropriate credit in "The Rock Bridge," or whatever I wound up calling that one here on Soundcloud.

Recorded (sorta noisily, sorry,) in the western part of Catskill, NY, in the foothills of the mountains, in Spring of 2013, by Bill McN Ross.

The 17 year cicadas, some near, a lot a bit farther off – the spaceship sound. The birds give you an idea of the volume. Recorded in W.Catskill, NY, by Bill Ross (June 9, 2013), who was feeling much comma by the end of it.
