"Well, here’s a great way to kick off the new year—11 tracks of sublime creative fury with a release date of 1/22/22. Cercle Futur’s adeptness for precision sound design and spooky dynamics on Genèse are at a high level—twisting and pulling on a variety of disjointed beats, bass, and baffling rhythms. The artist notes influences such as Ben Milstein and Barry Hewitt as well as the ghosts of Roel Funcken and Phoenecia, and we couldn’t agree more.

The sonic architecture behind each track is utterly surreal. Take the crunchy soundscapes of the opening piece “Sud Magnétique,” or the thudding industrial slabs peppered throughout this maze of tangled low-end arches. Genèse takes several dips and dives through splintered electro (ref. “Télémaque en Enfer” and “Les Forêts de Titane”) to electroacoustic glitch mangling and otherworldly staccato acid synth scribbling (“Anthropocène”). Cercle Futur traverses a myriad of found sounds and decomposed echoes from IDM’s past, somehow morphing them into a coherent, futuristic audio collage from the outer edges. “Métaphysique du Désir,” in particular, is a dilapidated beauty—its slow motion groove slithers across the landscape with minimal, acrobatic pitter-patter beats muffled in the background as crumpled voices dither and fade away.

While Genèse is fused together by polyrhythmic tentacles, flickering melodic bubbles, and scattered noises, tracks like “Tropique du Sagittaire” blend everything into an arcane, multilayered concoction. A truly inventive and chaotically engaged album that isn’t afraid to cross-pollinate the darker edges of experimental electro-nics."

As if things were not turning experimental enough with the last release we decided to push the limits further. This album is about jazz, obviously... but with a twist. Or should we say with a glitch? 

Massively influenced by the whole jazz/prog-rock/psyche scene of the 70's, this could be the soundtrack for an Inspector Harry movie where he's trying to take out rogue Xenomorphs in his flying Ford Mustang - or is it Steve Mac Queen?  

In short we're in 2073 and you're about to enter that clandestine bar near the Weyland-Yutani tower, but not before  dropping this new designer drug the replicant gave you at the entry... or something like that.”

Following Genèse by a year and a half and titled after Ernst Jünger's book, La Guerre Comme Expérience Intérieure marks the return of the mysterious sphere on Roulette Rekordz. If the first album mostly focused on dreamlike atmospheres and melodic sequences, this one is a concentration of anger, paranoia, and violence. Exploring new territories with a faster and more aggressive approach, the half-organic, half-synthetic entity delivers 8 tracks that culminate in fury, with a total length of 47 minutes.

This year marks the twentieth birthday since Roulette Rekordz's first release in 2003. 15 vinyls & 15 digital references. Some good music... and some really weird shit.

For this somewhat special occasion we have label co-founder IKKo with an album written and produced years ago, but eventually the masters were lost and the label went into hibernation mode, throwing this piece of music into oblivion. A chain of events recently led to a couple boxes of records and some cd-r's lying in the corner of a room... not the masters unfortunately but all the demo tracks that were a part of that cancelled release. That's for the little story.

Now for the music... Imagine what Nick Cave would have sounded if he was an unknown middle-aged metal worker disillusioned by life and giving shows in dirty bars the weekend for extras, offering his bitterness at those strong (or sober) enough to stay and listen his half-sung half-spoken french poetry, enhanced by electronic cabaret music or pop-esque electro with funk accents. But don't be fooled, there is no pretty french girl here, this is rather the Gaspar Noé of electro pop. Revealing its darkness from the get-go, the 8 tracks composing this album will transport you into the grim streets and dirty backyards of a grey and brown world where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.

2 remixes are included, Natan Vance makes a darker version of Le Mur enhanced with flemish lyrics and ending in breakbeat fury while Poladroïd offers a slower take on the original.

If certain compositions offer a semblance of musical conventionality (Architects, Moshpit Hobbit), some others boldly step into the future with both feet (Parhelion, The Prince).

Man of the shadows, Laurent Debraz is responsible for the visual universe of Belgium's underground since the last 30 years.

From the Strictly Underground page in OutSoon Magazine back in the nineties and the iconic D-Jacking Zone cartoons to the radical imagery of the Enjoy Apocalypse parties that will cost him a lifelong ban from entering the United States, he also designed covert art for labels such as Radikal Fear and Roulette Rekordz. From Absorbia's psychedelic drawings to the provocations of EA and the coded flyers of La Secte, he always remained true to the pirate spirit and it's an honor for Roulette to release his EP today.

5 tracks full of sinister vocoders and old school basslines that will bring you back on the foggy dancefloor of Eliane's boat. Electronic veteran Fhex is offering a beautiful electrowave remix, typical of that era's sound.

Mostly known for his work as LL321 under wich he released electro on Roulette but also acid-techno on Activities Records, Hakim Smokovich comes back to offer an album as surprising as the last one. 

Halfway between hip-hop beats and electronic soundscapes, the 10 tracks will make you dive into a strange universe where you'll find haunting melodies and trippy rhythmic structures as if Flying Lotus got a record deal with Schematic. 

Behind all the weirdness, there is a dense and complex realm, full of stories interlaced together, sometimes fun and harmless, sometimes much more sinister. Darker and grittier than Ballistics released in 2021, Evasions Fertiles is also less abstract and feels more mature. Definitely not for everyone, it will reward those able to give it a listen from beginning to end.

Roulette Rekordz has been a home for misfits, freaks and special characters since its creation. So when Nachtwald sent me his demo, I immediately felt a connection.

Johnny Hoorneboeg is a bit of a mystery to me, he seems rather young and quite shy but his music sounds like from a veteran from the Bunker/Den Haag crew. He does not talk much and does not use social media but acts in a goofy troll-esque way. I dont know much else, he seems to spend all his time doing music in his home of Nieuw-Loosdrecht.

At least you can tell he's coming from The Netherlands... but he sounds more like the sweaty nights of the dirty brown and miserable city than the trendy parties of the capital.

6 tracks of 5 AM music, when the dancefloor is cleared and you only see ghosts through a wall of smoke pulsating to music you never heard before but always knew about...
