Our long awaited second record comes in the form of a vinyl only VA, showcasing a variety of experimental club sounds from the UK’s underground.

The A2 comes from the Berlin based Low End Activist. 'Circle Speak' is a 140bpm low end, club weapon who’s rolling sub bass and mid-track percussion set the precedent and typify’s LEA’s genre bending style.

PREMIERE: Low End Activist - Circle Speak [Earful of Wax]

Nashville-based producer @jasoncode makes his Scuffed Recordings debut with a three-track EP of high-octane, freewheeling bass and club music.

Originally hailing from Seattle, Jason has become a fixture in the Tennessee dance community in the past ten years as part of the Terminal 8 crew, booking acts like Nikki Nair, ELISE, Kush Jones, and Leonce among others.

Following a string of self-released projects in 2020, Jason brings his unique style to Scuffed, incorporating elements of breaks, bass, UK garage, and more.

Opening with the title track, ‘HOT!’ sees Jason contrast bouncing chords and gleeful vocal samples with a lurching bass drop and clattering breaks.
‘City 17’ ups the tempo with wonky arpeggios veering over a fierce kick drum, and eventually developing into a shuffling, speed garage-esque beat.
‘Decisions’ closes out the release, jumping between eerie vocals, pounding kicks and skittish breaks to further build on Jason’s signature sound.

Jason Code - HOT! EP (Previews)

@sisterzo brings her debut EP to Scuffed Recordings with four tracks of heavy, percussive club music.

Midwesterner Sister Zo has been building a name for herself in recent years as a co-founder of Kansas City’s UN/TUCK label, using her DJ sets and productions as a means of channelling her experiences as a queer trans woman growing up in the North American Bible belt.

As one of the alumni of the Scuffed Recordings Artist Development Scheme, Sister Zo honed her production skills throughout 2021 and the result is the Screw Cheek EP – featuring four moody, bass-heavy tracks.

From the tension-building title track, to the rolling percussion of ‘Don’t Test Me’, to the broken beats of ‘Fire’, and eerie atmospherics of ‘Inhale’, Zo exhibits intricate sound design and carefully-considered production throughout the EP, marking her as a producer to watch in 2022 and beyond.

Having collaborated on a regular basis since 2017, Korin Complex and Carter Wolfe have been continually exploring new ways to work with sound. While 2020 saw the release of their track ‘Ponder’ on the Winding River EP (Miracle Drug Recordings), we are excited to be putting out a brand new collaborative release from Korin Complex and Carter Wolfe on Off-Switch Audio. After many years refining their sound, ‘Airlock EP’ demonstrates a satisfyingly fun and hands-on approach to dance music. Capturing analogue synth jams and digitally building them into fully-fledged tracks together via the internet, the pair have creatively overcome barriers of lockdowns and long-distance to put together a heavy hitting combo of bass, beats and catchy synth-lines.
The EP begins with the title track Airlock. The track gradually morphs punching polyrhythmic percussion into melodies that gracefully rotate around the higher frequencies. This leaves the perfect amount of space for the slow, decaying reverberations to ring back-and-forth between the smooth pitch modulated bass in a complex chatter of sound.
Filament then uses a similar sonic palette, filling the space with thick textures and fast-paced rhythmic intricacies. This one re-contextualises nostalgic analogue synth tones with digital FX processing, placing you in a somewhat outer-worldly musical experience perfectly accompanied with aggressive low frequency energy; Filament is truly one for those lone entrancing moments on the dancefloor.
Next up, Korin Complex takes on a more playful approach with Busywork. Although this one is a solo production from Korin, Busywork retains much of the energy of the previous two tracks. Cut up vocal samples syncopate above a heavy four-to-the-floor kick pattern, alongside an accidentally generated synth lead and an overload of electronic drum kit hits.
Finally, long-time accomplice of the Off-Switch imprint Barom, puts a brand new spin on Airlock. Combining loopy electro style drums with elements from the original, and signature organic sound design switch ups of his own, Barom takes the title track to an exciting new territory; the perfect encore to complete OSD009.

Pressure Dome emerges from the testbed with a galvanized collection of experiments in hybridity and rhythmic fragmentation. 

Mechanically twisted dancehall sonics, tough club steppers and euphorically charged electronics combine to form an ionized trajectory of uniform motion. A bouncing and fractious ode to the wavelengths of machine pressure. 

Wanting to give back to the city we live in and one that inspires so much creativity in those fortunate enough to access opportunity, all profits from PDCOMP003 will go to Community Care Package, a free food delivery service, for anyone who can't get out or afford fresh fruit and veg during the current pandemic. Thereafter, profits will go to Caring in Bristol, a homeless charity providing services and shelter for those most in need.
