Fearless experimental pop icon in the making (and the newest member of Atari Teenage Riot), Rowdy Superstar’s new Single “Breathe” and debut album “Battery” will be released on 12th November 2012. The album was produced by musical pioneer Matthew Herbert, and will be released on his label Accidental Records.

Described as "An outrageous slice of pop music with its intelligence left intact" (Clash Music), on first listen “Battery” might sound like a glossy yet quirky leftfield pop album destined for dancefloors and iPod party playlists. On closer inspection the underlying message is of hope and perseverance in the face of judgement and doubt, in a similar vein to writers such as Santigold, Outkast and Prince. The intense third single from the album, “Breathe”, tackles feelings of internal struggle, as Rowdy takes your hand in the darkest moment before the dawn - “why does everything, seem so dark, when outside, the sky is blue, the forecast is dry, open your eyes and breathe in.” It also features remixes by The Invisible, Raisa K (Micachu and The Shapes), and Hello Skinny (aka Tom Skinner).

Growing up in West London, Rowdy channelled his energy into creativity as he saw others around him lose sight of their dreams, and in some cases their lives. Starting a dance company and working as a successful stylist before making a splash with his early demos on Myspace, Rowdy pours his endless ideas into every part of the artistic process, from writing and production to art direction and choreography. Known for his eclectic DJ sets and notoriously exciting live show (complete with lighting system, Hype GirlsTM and loud speaker), you are likely to see Rowdy popping up in the most unexpected places (probably without warning) throughout the rest of the year.


Breathe

In ‘Fury1’, Rowdy SS and LYIN navigate space together through live simultaneous practices of responsive sonic manipulation and dance. Collapsing time and working with the simultaneous presence of past-future-now; for you and for us in different ways at the same time. 

Silence and stillness are fictions; holding the density, feeling out languages of darkness and omissions. Sound and bodies in wordless dialogue like light that refracts in the prism of the moving crowd. Always movement.
