Fall Apart

This is the first in a set of "etudes" of sampled guitar that I have been messing around with, on and off, for the last two or three years.  I was trying to come up with something using glitch techniques that also sounded pretty.  

Except for the slight bit of percussion towards the middle and the end, all the other tracks are derived from the repeating guitar loop (played by me) at the beginning.  I pitched it up and down by thirds and fiths and octaves, and reversed and stretched sections of it to try and find neat little things.

I was careful when playing the loop to maximize the I and V so it would transpose more easily as I pitched it up and down.  I am really proud of this one.  Hope you like it, too!

Another experiment with guitars.  In Ableton, for each clip I played one guitar chord, very much in a Kevin Shields glide guitar style.  Then, I doubled it and reverses it.  One track panned left, the other to the right.  The chords were then arranged in a way in which it is difficult to determine the tonal center -- there is no clear I chord, although there is a repetitive use of a chord to establish a sort of end.

I did some other stuff as well, but that is probably the most interesting part!

This is a one off piano piece I improvised and have no idea how I would play it again. I was thinking about dark and slow music, like Beethoven's Fur Elise or Moonlight Sonata, or Satie's minimalist piano.
