I’m HEMSI, an Algerian DJ and sound artist. For ELMNT @ XBMSTUDIO, I’ll be translating the energy, rhythm, and gesture of ELMNT’s work into an immersive sonic experience. My sets blend Mediterranean textures, deep rhythms, and experimental layers to create a dialogue between movement, color, and emotion.

XBM Studio is a cultural hub and creative agency based in Algiers, combining galleries, workshops, audiovisual production and brand-management to foster artistic experimentation and cultural exchange in Algeria.

LMNT (aka Lyes) is a street-artist and calligraffiti master whose work merges traditional Arabic calligraphy with urban graffiti gestures. His compositions animate walls, transforming identities and narratives in public space through bold lines, motion, and visual rhythm.

Back in March 2022, I played my first gig in Oran. It was one of those rare moments where I felt completely alive. I was offered the opportunity to DJ partly because I was a woman - a well-meaning gesture, but one that felt like the wrong kind of visibility. True to my rebel nature, I refused that advantage. I played wearing a balaclava so the crowd wouldn't see me as "a woman playing" - just as someone playing. It's fitting that this happened with The Rebels collective - a crew that matched my rebellious spirit. My dear friend Chakib Lahfa (Chakspeace) was truly an ally in giving chances to artists like myself to step behind the decks. His belief in us wasn't about filling a quota - it was about the music. That night, I blended IDM and tech house with breakbeat, letting the sound speak for itself while I disappeared into the music. Long live the underground. For the love of gathering. For the love of music that gathers.
