This song was inspired by "The Cold Heart" (German: Das kalte Herz), a fairy tale written by Wilhelm Hauff. It was published in 1827 in a collection of fairy tales that take place within the narrative of The Spessart Inn.
Although written almost 200 years ago, the described conflicts of mankind are still up-to-date, maybe even more than before. Preferring status und prosperity over humanity is something which has become socially acceptable.

I recommend that anyone learning to play the guitar listen to this piece over and over again, playing the Gm/B♭pentatonic scale in various ways, and trying to find a phrase that you like.

The volume adjustment during mixdown is optimized for the environment when using the earphones that come with the iPhone. If you feel that the volume of the guitar playing in this work is low, please use earphones and check the volume balance of this recording. It seems that earphones other than those that came with the iPhone do not have any problems. When using an Android device and when connecting an audio interface to a PC, I connected inexpensive earphones and confirmed that the guitar volume can be heard at a roughly appropriate balance.

There is another way. I have embedded a SoundCloud player on my blog to introduce my works, but I noticed that this work sounds harder (mid-high tones are clearer) than when played directly in the browser. Over the weekend, a tiny creature showed up at our home, in need of a little help.  After a day of some care, it scurried away to continue on with life, no worse for the wear.  The experience brought to mind a hymn I used to sing as a child, “All Things Bright & Beautiful." The refrain is probably the most well-known part of the hymn:

“All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.”

The hymn speaks of the wonder of creation as well as the inherent value of life and served as the inspiration for this piano improvisation. The words (but not the original melody) from the refrain are integrated into the composition beginning at the section from :58 – 1:17 and repeating several times thereafter.
