After the whole Undyne ordeal, you invade the Dummies' Home to find out what it wanted in that palace in the first place.

They explain that, their plan was to leave you to deal with Undyne while they took some materials to make something for a friend, and what that something is, they can't say.

But realizing you'll go to the CORE, they begin a "practice fight" to show you something you'll see inside, the last soul mode, MIRROR MODE (based on the switch only soul mode), pretty self explanatory.
The Dummy can replicate the magic the security in the CORE uses with stolen materials from the palace.

The CORE, the great machine that powers the entire Underground, filled with traps, mechanisms and security. Descending this monstrous structure will be no easy task, but you take the Doctor's challenge.

Just like in Undertale, the CORE's soundtrack doubles as its battle track, the enemies are enhanced versions of some previous threats from throughout your journey, along with some new ones, like Knight Knight and Migospell.

You two proceed to have a small talk, discussing most importantly, how close you are to getting out from the Underground.

Depending on some of your previous actions, MTB will have certain remarks and comments, in any case, with a (metaphorical) smile.

"The end is closer than ever anyway, isn't it?"

The last stretch of The CORE, inching closer to the end with each step, a quiet, long corridor.

But you are not alone, not right now, MTB follows close behind, trying to say goodbye, to maybe convince you to stay, or perhaps the opposite.
He wonders what the future will bring to monsterkind, what will happen if you achieve your freedom, or they get theirs back.

Throught the various screens around the hallway, Dr. Gaster monologues about his plan, to make things right, to redeem his name, to gift monsterkind what they were robbed from.
Promising a bright future for his people, and for himself, the peace he longs for.

There's a third voice, only you can hear, the voice of who you've been guiding, questioning their own actions, trying to justify why they want to leave, after all, they deserve to be up there, but...  wouldn't mosnters deserve that too?

Regardless, you must push forward, and never look back.
