After two strong years Beaufort Beats has made its mark on the Melbourne techno scene. The second VA witnesses the return of Handsdown and Leigh Boy, one of Australia’s strongest techno duos. They bring with them a peak time bomb with plenty of flare, perfect for dusty dance floors. We also welcome newcomer Greyn, who provides a deep, tribalistic rhythm for the late night party animals… err we mean ‘people’. comradenathan, Prosdo and label head Rob contribute with some slapping snares, catchy melodies and dubious lyrics. These three powerhouse ladies have been making their mark all over Australia and it is a pleasure to have their respectively trippy, pensive and banging tracks on Beaufort. Returning to the label are comradenathan, Atonal Structures, Greyn, Prosdo and Rob Lewis who all bring their own sounds to the compilation. The Crypt EP marks the seventh release from Beaufort Beats, with owner Rob Lewis providing three groove based tracks for the dance floors. The lead track utilises a pensive lead line to create those moments of deep dance floor contemplation that practiced ravers relish. Lost Episodes really changes the pace from sweetly melancholy to more ‘punch you in the face’ kind of track with hard hitting, snare slapping drops at the forefront of attention. trip IN OUT ties the EP together with a rolling bass line, a bizarre lead line that weaves in and out of the track as time goes on and questionable vocals from Rob. Writing each track as it’s own musical piece, these ideas were only compiled together as an EP well after they were all completed, but hold strong together as they demonstrate stylistic choices opted by Rob.

This year has left Melbourne, Australia and the rest of the world deprived of social outings where we listen to the music that sustains us all. Every live music lover and party animal around the globe has felt the effect of this deprivation. Label head Rob and Prosdo come together in collaboration, which many know they save for occasions where the sound is just right, to express their thoughts on the situation. The spoken-word lyrics say it all.

Royboy is a DJ and producer with 15 years of experience residing in Melbourne, Australia. In 2025 Royboy’s tracks have been played at iconic nightclubs like London's FABRIC and Ibiza's Amnesia, in addition to major festivals like Sonar in Barcelona and Awakenings in Amsterdam. Royboy is the creator of record label and event platform Beaufort Beats, operating since 2019, which has an event residency at the iconic Melbourne venue Revolver Upstairs and releases music from local and international techno specialists, which are regularly heard from notable artists on the global club and festival circuit.
