Sink Or Swim E.P. 

Second time on hafendisko - Sidney S. Thompson aka Sid Le Rock (@sidlerock) gives us three more reasons why this Canadian is such a hot ticket these days. 

Currently residing in Berlin - Le Rock has numerous killer releases under his belt, on labels such as Mute Records, Kompakt, My Favorite Robot, Shitkatapult, hafendisko and his own label Beachcoma.
 
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. He also has an impressive back catalogue of Gringo Grinder and Pan/Tone releases.

‘Beckon’ opens the Sink or Swim EP - a mid tempo chugger with a motorik beat, atmospheric pads and killer percussion.
 
‘Silent Service’ is darker in mood, a nervy rhythm works its magic around a pulsing, mutating synth.
 
‘Afloat’ owes more to italo and no-wave influences, an arpeggiated synth line battles with cosmic sounds and melodies, all tied together with another chugging beat that will work the dancers.

Sid Le Rock - Beckon

Tale Of Us present a new collaboration with Vaal for the sixth release on their Afterlife label. Three years after they teamed up for ‘Concur’ and began to tour together, the trio return with their most anthemic offering yet. Vaal’s hauntingly-beautiful and instantly-recognisable vocals are the centre-piece on ‘Monument’, building on the style of her Wander To Hell EP (AL002). The drums and shimmering synth lines are moody and uplifting in the way Tale Of Us have made their own, arranged perfectly for the psychedelic breakthrough.

On the flip side, ‘The Hangar’ takes a different approach to equally devastating effect. It pumps with added urgency and a thunderous, steely bassline lunges out from the low-end. Designed for large soundsystems and big rooms, ‘The Hangar’ finds Tale Of Us and Vaal at their most direct and it’s something to behold.

Barnt and Stephan Bodzin, two artists whose stand-out performances at recent Afterlife events have made them firm favourites with the crowds, are tapped for the remixes (AL007). They both take on ‘Monument’, Barnt opting for a rolling, percussive direction and Bodzin more ethereal and transportive.

Stephan Bodzin: a classically trained musician, vastly experienced producer and master of melody. He has built a reputation through countless releases under many aliases, and through his dramatic and dynamic live set capturing the hearts of fans worldwide. For Afterlife, Bodzin bottles the infectious energy of these shows into two epic, colourful landscapes of sound, “Strand” and “Catamaran”.

Following his first contribution to the label in September - a mesmerising remix of Tale Of Us & Vaal’s ‘Monument’ - “Strand” elevates this fitting relationship to the next level. The release contains a true anthem from Bodzin’s and Tale Of Us’ sets in ‘Strand’ and a more restrained effort in ‘Catamaran’.
