This track is an experiment in musical perception. Apart from the opening and the last seconds of the Outro, the entire track is EXACTLY THE SAME as the original mix (https://soundcloud.com/geschwaetz-gmbh/bb-gg-mina-nomhlaba). However, the purpose of the first 38 seconds is to "train you" to hear the track in 3 beats per bar, rather than 4. After which you will probably not be able to shift your perception to hearing it in 4 beats per bar without the excertion of an excessive deal of attention and willpower. Unless, of course, you start the track randomly after the 38 second mark, in which case your perception of it being in either 3 or 4 could go either way, entirely depending on how you read the musical cues and signposts at that random point at which you started. Once you are hearing it in 4 again, it's difficult to shift your perception to 3 (and visa versa) without restarting the track from the beginning and "re-training" your ear/mind/internal pulse. Isn't it a funny ol' world...?

Do you hear these 2 tracks as 2 completely rhythmically different pieces?

Personally, I see these 2 tracks as an analog to the human condition and our ongoing sociatal and political dilemma: individuals' perception of anything (among these: The Facts) is largely driven by how they are fundamentally "pre-set" in their understanding of reality/facts/the world/norms/ideologies. Once you are pre-set, even though there's clearly more than one way to view something, it is no small task to break out of that pre-set bias. 

I could imagine that in a room full of listeners, arguments could break out about who's perception is "correct", and more or less "woke", and whose perception dominates and holds sway over the rest of the group; while those in the opposite camps think the others mad, unserious, liars and subversives, then bloody-mindedly, derisively accuse them of suffering from Rhythm Derangement Syndrome; while a 3rd group knows that both aspects are legitament and worth considering, while wondering what's wrong with all of the others in that they must insist at being at odds with one another.

"Not so far from the center of town, just up Kloof Nek Road, lies Camps Bay Beach - a gorgeous part of Cape Town, very popular with us locals and, of course, the tourists. With the beach, the tidal pool, and the stunning backdrop of the 12 Apostles and Tabletop Mountain, it’s a breathtaking spot with a happy, relaxed atmosphere. The beach itself is absolutely pristine, with the most stunning white sand you’ve ever seen. People come to walk, surf, swim in the cool waters, and some to sit, watch the azure breakers and meditate. Buskers play guitar, hawkers sell soda, and somebody's Sound Box runs an Amapiano playlist. The Atlantic can be cold and rough, even on hot summer days, and the beach's rocky tidal pool heats up a few degrees warmer than the ocean, making it a favorite refuge. It's a pleasant, calm place to swim, catch some sun, and hang out and drink Carling Black Label (or, my favorite: Castle Milk Stout) with your friends. Sun, surf, deck chairs, umbrellas, shopping, good food, restaurants, bars, and even clubs when the sun goes down. This is the best of Cape Town, and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else."

As an artist from Cologne's vibrant subculture, Julian Schraven has a long-standing presence in the electronic music scene. With a sonic evolution that has led him from a downtempo sound to faster, more percussive rhythms, he is living proof that change means progress. As an artist who explores the liberated space between driving house tracks and anthems for the dancefloor, he is unique and has a compelling discography. Schraven is also a co-founder of the Cologne-based booking agency AYA.

Inspired by freedom, peace, hedonism, and friendliness, Schraven has remained true to the ethos of dance music culture. He has been involved with the Zugvögel Festival, a non-commercial culture and music festival in the Eifel region, since its inception and continues to be involved to this day. The festival's mission is to create a space for encounters, exchange, and solidarity. This is where Schraven's musical and organizational work align: they both pursue the same goals by creating an open learning environment where people can unleash their creativity and where diversity and otherness are celebrated. Schraven's commitment in this context reflects his artistic vision, which focuses on community, inclusivity, and respect.

In August 2025, Julian Schraven performed a live set at the first AYA Booking open-air party in Cologne, which marks the peak of his musical development. The tracks, all of which were created in 2025, embody the sound that Schraven has finally, after years of searching, proudly defined as his own. The set includes tracks that will soon be released on the labels 3000Grad and Friendly Connections and bear his unique musical signature.
