Right from the first song I remember an experience that I can't forget to this day:
I was driving home at night after DJing at a club with a buddy in the car and then this one new song came on the radio that was so unique I pulled over and cranked the speakers...

And with that, dear friends, welcome to 1988, an interesting year for music, R&B, dance & house were equally popular, I think it's a really cool mix.
Let's stay with soulful beats.
Teddy Pendergrass, formerly a successful singer in the Philly Sound era with Harlod Melvin & The Blue Notes moved our souls with "Joy", Bobby Brown had his first hit as a solo artist (he was formerly in the boy band NewEdition) and Prince kidnapped us with sparse beats into the grandiose Alphabet Street.

Manhattan Transfer left their usual paths and served us real “soul food to go”.
And yet another great R&B song that makes 1988 so fantastic, "Roses are red" by the Mac Band, I love it !!!

Also look forward to the adorable Patsy Kensit and Eight Wonder with “I'm not scared” ,
the Pet Shop Boys, Rob Base, Geoffrey Williams, Bomb the Bass, Rick Astley and Paula Abdul
 
In addition, freestyle sound  also enjoyed great popularity in Germany,
I just say Stevie B, Johnny O., Beat Club, Debbie Deb & Co  :-)
I would also like to recommend two particularly perfectly produced dance floor fillers from 1988 “Divine Emotions” by songwriter, producer and singer Narada Michael Walden and Siedah Garret with K.I.S.S.I.N.G.

1988 R&B Meets Disco & House

This is a special mix drawing on influences from the infamous Legend nightclub in Manchester in the 80's with Greg Wilson as it's DJ and also the equally as legendary Blackpool Mecca nightclub from  the 70's with my hero Colin Curtis DJing Northern Soul.

The mix uses music specifically from the 70's and 80's period that have been reworked for a modern dancefloor. The mix begins with SOS Band's original masterpiece 'Just Be Good To Me' and then takes you on a journey through time in a Soulful and Groovy manner.

I've also played a Todd Edwards style in places with mashed up vocals while keeping the original underlying sound of the track intact. 

This is a mix recorded with much Love & Soul, turn it on, turn it up and get your Groove on!

This collection of underground dance music covers tracks released between 1975 and 1983 from both sides of the Atlantic. The tracks chosen for this compilation introduce some of the pioneering few who expanded the horizons of disco to incorporate elements of dub, funk, electro, jazz and Latin. In some ways many of the artists featured here foresaw the birth of successive musical genres. There is no disputing that they were all well ahead of their time and with the recent trend of similarly inspired house they sound as fresh today as they did then.

The music chosen for this album were the underground classics that made the scene what it was in the heady of days of the Paradise Garage and the Loft in NYC and the Warehouse in Chicago where DJs such as Arthur Baker and Francois Kervorkian could be heard spinning such tracks.

On disc two (CD version only) Masters at Work add their touches to one of their favourite tracks while Harvey and Underdog take on the Disco Dub band and come up with two very different interpretations which will work on today’s dancefloors.
