EKATA is a London based DJ/Producer + Natural Selection Resident who's productions are characterised by their dark and atmospheric soundscapes, driven by pulsating rhythms and intricate synth work.

Determined to create music that is unearthly, idiosyncratic and exuding futurism of that of a sci-fi film, she has a vision and always ensures a story is to be told in each track she produces.
She mainly sticks to the dark and eerie side of Electro/Techno in her productions & gigs, where she will take you on a dark and twisted journey through incredibly dystopian, ominous grooves and obvious sci-fi fixations which embody her carefully picked selections. 

She has had an unstoppable start to her production journey, releasing on some of the best Electro labels out there; Burial Soil . CHP Recordings . Censor . Cybersoul . Furatena . Mars Frequency Records . Native Boundaries + Urban Connections with more releases scheduled for 2024. Her latest track "KILONOVA" will be out on Avoidant on 1st March 2024

Today it is with extreme joy and excitement that we share with you a mix from one of the most interesting electro producers.

Already as a teenager, Nico discovered his fondness/preference for producing electronic music. In the process, he didn't commit to any particular genre. Only the German techno scene caused him to specialize in techno production. During this time, he, among other things, acted as a DJ in various clubs in his hometown.
After some years, he had the impression that he hadn't developed further, and thus, he decided to try electro music. Nico noticed very soon that it was the right challenge for him, and so ELEKTROTECHNIK emerged in 2017. Now he was able to process his emotions and feelings, which didn't leave him unscathed due to current topics.
Since then, ELEKTROTECHNIK has put all his energy into the production of electro music. It's definitely been worth it so far because there have been multiple releases on different labels, such as NoteRecordings, Tigerweeds, Fanzine, Gladio Operations and A.Traction, where he has already released 6 EPs.

Which artists has influenced you the most?
- There are quite a few that have influenced me. The most famous are Kraftwerk, Anthony Rother, Johannes Heil, Hans Zimmer & The Hacker.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?
- Further releases on various labels are planned for the future, as well as some collaborations with various artists.

Which artists/labels are more topical for you right now?
- That's difficult to say. There are some good labels that release very good music, and there are even more talented artists, especially those who are not yet so well known. And I think that's a shame. Some big labels should give artists a chance, even if they haven't released much but still produce very good music. I find it very depressing when you send your demos to a label, the music is listened to, but you don't get any feedback from the label. I speak from my own experience.

What inspires you now to create music?
- I get the inspiration for my music from certain situations in my life that have a certain emotional impact on me. This can be, for example, “joy” or “anger”. Of course, I also have to mention that film music also has a huge influence on me. The strings in particular, which can create a very special atmosphere or drama, shape my style, so to speak. The ideas for my lyrics are mainly determined by everyday things that have a particular influence on our modern life. All I can say is: digitalization, social media, AI & politics, which is both a blessing and a curse for me.

What set-up do you use when creating music?
- I'm using Ableton and mainly virtual instruments. For me, this is the fastest way to finish a song. Occasionally I also use my TR8, Microkorg and Korg Volca. I would like to work with more analog synths, but since my time for production is limited, my equipment is very manageable.

How would you describe your music policy?

Mutual Dreaming has always been about obsessions of mine, the weirder music, and outlier artists. Its been all over the place from PPU boogie parties, DJ Stingray's NYC debut, Dr Rubinstein, etc, always with a similar spirit of playfulness. I'm never wanting anything standard or genre-abiding.  I saw the fliers and artist choices as a bat signal for people open to that.  Besides the guests, one of its goals has been giving local artists a proper stage, proper sound, and seeing that talent really flex & develop.

What makes a great party? 

A great party is a very elusive thing, only possible when all the details come together and form a collective unconscious that's bigger than any one element.  You can just feel it in the air, everything's churning deeper and feels unstoppable, and that's when personal transformation is possible. You can't always predict when it will happen. As an organizer I think you can help get it there by setting some things in motion, but after that it just unfolds on its own.

What does your party stand for, and how do you express that? 

I have a few half-joking mottos. 'Strictly for the freaks' is something my friend Max D said years ago. Coming from a very conformist city, DC, that has meant the music lovers & friends that you really had to work to find. In my dream world it would be full of people in crazy outfits, but to me freak means something more like a believer in underground culture, and that doesn't necessarily look cool.  The other motto is 'DIY the only way to fly.' Meaning: no sponsorship, nobody else producing it, no need for commercial success, all my projects are meant as a transmission from my imagination. This is really important to me.

 What’s the greatest problem facing club culture in your city? 

Dancing is technically illegal except for a few commercial clubs, so the nightlife I've been interested in has mostly been underground  in lofts and random spaces. There's always a risk of getting shut down, losing tons of money, and the safety and exits can be sketchy.  In recent years especially since the Oakland fire, I have been extra cautious and turned to more legal places, but I'm going back to the underground spots again.  Has to be that way if your tying to catch that feeling of a special space for one night only. Another problem is bros and finance people ruining the vibe, groping girls, etc. Occasionally I'll get discouraged, worrying it will never be the same, but you just have to keep pushing further into your zone and outrunning them.

What’s your favorite memory of the night?

After 7 years its difficult to pick a favorite but I guess I can think of a turning point. 2013, before Sustain-Release started, I had stepped back after a few unsuccessful nights and wondered the way forward if I would continue. I found an incredible loft with lots of strange rooms, and organized a party with new label at the time, White Material vs Vereker. The owner of the space was a weirdo, but as the hours got closer, it became apparent that he was never going to turn on the electricity. I googled him and realized he was an actual scam artist. The truck showed up with the soundsystem and it was now or never, so I called my old space 285 Kent which had ended its 4 year run the night before, so it was open and available for one last party. We roll up to find the toilets had exploded, and there's disgusting chunky brown water covering the entire floor.. we're mopping, and frantically setting up a huge parachute installation on the ceiling, and then the fog machine breaks. But after all that chaos, the result was absolutely pulsing with life force energy. It looked and sounded the best it ever had so far, the music felt new, and I glimpsed the power and potential of our scene, and since then the parties seemed more potent, focused and magic.

Recently, we have accepted a new resident into our ranks and are finally publishing her live within our podcast. Once Zhenya studied drama of cinema, but the language of notes and sounds turned out to be closer to her. With the help of music that is not limited by stylistic frames, she tells stories of feelings or life states and human experiences, which is reflected in the titles of the tracks.

In recent years, the nickname Sestrica has become familiar to Russian dance floors, and her music has attracted the attention of the authoritative Dave Clarke, British fanzine Mixmag, who included the track For The Wrong Reasons in the Best New Techno selection. Our French friend Umwelt, who released her release on his label and of course m_division, because her live periodically began to decorate our line-ups, in general, all the puzzles have come together, we ask you to love and favor and present her live, recorded on the main stage of the GAMMA festival 2020
