Der Schwarze Block ist keine geschlossene Gruppe, sondern eine Aktionsform, eine Taktik für Demonstrationen. Die Taktik ist entstanden aus Erfahrungen der Konfrontation mit der Polizei. Durch einheitliche Kleidung, Sonnenbrillen und Kapuzen und durch Front- und Seitentransparente will man kompakt auftreten, nicht identifizierbar sein und Eingriffe der Polizei verhindern.

Diese nicht hierarchisch organisierte Form des Protests – Kleingruppen entscheiden selbst, wie sie handeln – ist in den Achtzigerjahren in der autonomen Szene entstanden, im Kontext von Antifaschismus, Hausbesetzungen und der Auseinandersetzung um Atomkraft.

The black block is not a closed group, but a form of action, a tactic for demonstrations. The tactic arose from experience of confrontation with the police. With uniform clothing, sunglasses and hoods and front and side transparencies, you want to appear compact, not be identifiable and prevent interventions by the police.

This non-hierarchically organized form of protest - small groups decide for themselves how to act - arose in the 1980s in the autonomous scene, in the context of anti-fascism, squatting and the dispute over nuclear power.
