In the second of our 2015 festival warm up mix series, Phil Asher, takes to the decks to brings us 10 Tracks of an inspirational, uplifting and of course deeply soulful nature.

Phil Asher has been one of the residents of SunSplash Festival over the last 7 years, during which time he has graced our beach parties and club sessions with nothing less that pure class. Whether the occasion calls for good time party tracks, or something deep, moody, broken beat, mellow or cutting edge, few DJs can delve into as wide a spectrum of good music and present it with such natural ability and flair. As far as we are concerned Phil Asher is nothing short of house music royalty, but house music is just the beginning.

Phil Asher - MiX 8.o

Phil Asher serves up his debut release on his newly formed RSTLSS TRAX imprint. A master of the house sound, Phil’s productions exude an air of sophistication and class, both of which can be found in the Rhythmical Whims EP.

Lead track ‘Juno’ combines a tribalesque beat and sub heavy bass with flashes of well-placed synths. 

As the name would suggest ‘Piano’ is all about the deftly filtered keys which roll over a funky bass line. A sense of improvisation from the piano keeps the track forever evolving whilst the percussion keeps it firmly locked in a groove.

The EP’s final offering ‘Rhythmic_1’ is a deep, percussive tool that will slot well into any well-crafted DJ set.

Whether it’s the sprawling dub house vibes of ‘Crowds’ which has been winning the praise of dancefloors across the globe, the dark tribal intensity of ‘BALAFON’ on which Dwala steals the show, or the hypnotism of the aptly titled ‘London Style’, functionality is at the core of this well-crafted EP.

Having released music on Sonar Kollektiv, Still Music & Rush Hour as well as remixed the likes of Jazztronik, Frankie Valentine and Tokyo Black Star, Isoul8’s authentic house productions boast an air of sophistication and class at all times.

The brooding, hypnotic and deeply engaging ‘Change’ sits perfectly with the RSTLSS TRX aesthetic and this constantly-evolving trip through deep house music showcases just what Isoul8 is all about. Subtle tribal percussion and acid-tinged synth lines bubble and twist over the course of the track with suspense building every step of the way. 

Inner delivers a deft remix which builds on the suspense of the original completing a fine release.

At just 18 years old Milky Thee Soul is very much still learning his trade but already his talents and penchant for deep house has firmly caught the attention of some of the scene's most well-respected names, including label boss Phil Asher who snapped up his debut EP, Spoken Heart. 

Kicking off the EP is the percussion-heavy ‘Blessings’, which slowly evolves building momentum throughout its course in restrained fashion.  ’Soul Spoken heart’ explores a slightly more up-tempo approach whilst remaining deep and hypnotic. Rounding off the package, ‘Monday Morning’ combines shimmering and brass riffs showcasing the depth of his powerful sound.
