Zaghareet (or zaghroutah) is a form of ULULATION :: practiced by women across the Middle East and Africa -- expression of joy usually performed at weddings, festivals, celebrations. An ululation is a long, wavering, high-pitched vocal sound resembling a howl with a trilling quality. It is produced by emitting a high pitched loud voice accompanied with a rapid movement of the tongue and the uvula. The term ululation is an onomatopoeic word derived from Latin. Homer mentions ololuge (ululation) in his works -- used as a joyful expression, or to celebrate good news. In the Middle East, zaghareet (Arabic: زغرودة) is a ululation performed to honor someone. --
