In accordance with relativity, they are in some sense interchangeable, but we do know that they form co-equal parts of a larger 'thing' called space-time, and it is only within space-time that the most complete understanding of the motion and properties of natural objects and phenomena can be rigorously understood by physicists. Space and time are to space-time what arms and legs are to humans. In some sense they are interchangeable, but you cannot understand 10,000 years of human history without including both arms and legs as part of the basic human condition.

Budget Cuts: Records & Tapes is honored to present five tracks of pure bliss from Bogotá based artist Ronan (@ronan-music). Ronan, which translates to ‘A Little Seal’ in Gaelic, is the moniker of producer and artist Robin Lohrey. Lohrey was raised on San Juan Island in Washington and studied at the New England Conservatory of Music. After graduating, Lohrey moved to Ridgewood, Queens establishing himself as the creative director the Felt Presence studio space and and the technical director of the Groovy Groovy underground party series. After releasing projects on Vanity Press and Jungle Gym under his given name, Lohrey created a new musical vision and path with the founding of the Ronan moniker and the Eternal Ocean imprint with the release of the instant cult classic “Prolongez La Magie”. 

For his second release, Ronan offers an introspective 5 track EP. Recorded largely during a secluded summer spent living in a cabin in the woods on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State this selection of music spans a range of tempos and moods, creating its own unique narrative space somewhere along the hardcore continuum. This creative period marked an important transition in Ronan’s life and he found solace and meaning in the writings of psychologist and meditation teacher Tara Brach, who’s book Radical Acceptance shares the title of this EP. Her words of awakening from what she calls “The Trance of Fear” activated deep self reflection and inspired this work which represents a testament to the brave act of facing one’s self and to the joy found in accepting who we truly are.

After his first apparition under WVRXRVW on Nous Disques Records's Various, he takes off and burst into his mind to connect his propositions.

Lisbon’s Violet has contributed to the latest yearly UN Women compilation, ‘HeForShe x femme culture’. It follows femme culture’s volume two compilation, which saw contributions from Martyn Bootyspoon, Mr Mitch, India Jordan, Nightwave, Lone, and more. As before, all proceeds and sales from the HeForShe Vol. 3 will go to the United Nations Women, the global champion for gender equality. This year, donations from sales will go to making sure that the needs of womxn and girls are recognised and addressed in the global response to Covid-19, as domestic violence and sexual exploitation have sadly risen as a result of social isolation. A spacious, glistening work that recalls the Uncut Gems score at times with its new age synths, naive label head Violet (listen to her Dummy Mix here) offers up ‘Sketching Tomorrows’. ‘Centre of Attention’ completes the various artists EP release trilogy from Left, Right & Centre with the continuation of bassy, break neck offerings as they reach the summit sonically. It is available as a four track digital EP in addition to a limited edition LRC-USB that features all 12 tracks from the 12 artists exhibited throughout their label launch.
The EP is set forth by Porter Brook with a spooky, new school, drum & bass hybrid - The Proposed Roads. UK influences follow suit, in Loggerheads from Hedchef, as it embodies a complex tapestry of drum sequences and a demented twist on everyones favourite rave stab. Twisting and turning, Who’s There? by Alexis swivels the mood to mystery, combining warped sounds with pulsing hi-hats to create a full bodied track for euphoric moments. Feloneezy answers Alexis’ question with Pick Up The Phone picking up the pace with a two step flow of skipping snares that’s both fierce and smooth. Unlike their previous releases within their V/A trilogy, this extended play includes artists from overseas that share a passion for UK flavoured techno and bass.
