Operating under various monikers (La Serpiente, MS and Narvalo), we had the pleasure of him opening our first event at Garage Noord under his original name. This recording is a section of what you missed out on a stormy Thursday in November.

Threaded with underlying tension, Luke Cohlen spirals across disparate styles. Radical at heart, he seeks to pleat sounds, allowing the rhythmic and abstract to align and dance together. Whether at the club or via regular radio appearances, including his residency slot on Amsterdam’s Echobox, listening to Luke play is like witnessing a text unfold, where abrasive sonics unravel and are recomposed. This research into diverse musical realms is translated through his record label, aural conduct, an open, experimental platform for artists that capture both zeitgeist and timelessness.

The desert was vast, it stretched out before them as far as the eye could see. In the distance there was but a faint line which separated the dust from the sky. That was where they were headed...

Through the night they would travel, beneath the cloak of darkness. It was cooler then and they might slip by undetected.

Strange forces watched over this place, something in the great beyond kept a careful look out.

It was that which they must escape.

Oceanic appears alongside a cast of wicked producers on the final release from BAKK. A compilation which features the likes of Legowelt, Aurora Halal, Don't DJ and more plays out the label in style. This track showcases Oceanic's unique and pensive approach to sound design.

Hague-based techno and experimental electronics label @bakk-projects cap off an 11-year run with 'xoxo', a triple LP swan song compilation featuring Legowelt, Aurora Halal, SFC Acid, and Haron, among others. The release spans sprawling dub techno, ambient house, and slow burn electronica.

Plafond continues, taking center stage after the mother label BAKK ceded. Here, two long-time collaborators, Ekolali, originating from Sweden, and Tala Drum Corps, from the Netherlands, await their returns. The former reappears with a characteristic approach earlier heard on 'Doggerland'. The latter did multiple dance releases yet now debuts for this series, expanding on his stylistic spectrum. 

Despite shared tempo, the energies of the track are each of their own. Pulsating with energetic urgency, Ekolali, towards hypnotic movement, Tala Drum Corps. 'Totem Mollusca' shoots for the sun, like a budding landscape, yellow rays, waterdrops – kraut-inspired yet club-like without seeking a climax. 'tokyo subway' has a marimba-ridden, timeless feel – a clock-ticking, crude atmosphere, as a dream long passed, slowly ascending. 

Known for its two-sided, two-songs format, Plafond offers two artists or artist combinations the freeform room for exploration and elongation of their respective sound and practices. This is the eighth in the series.

In honor of the late great Mika Vanio, I present this recording I made of the show they played at Coney Island High on St Marks Place on October 30th 1998. It was incredibly intense, late in the set Alan vega jumps on stage and freaks on the mic like only he could. He was so amped he tripped over a cord and unplugged all of the gear in one fell swoop!! ( that's what the drop in music is)

Recorded on the legendary Sony MZ-R30 Mini-Disc Recorder using a sweet Sony condenser mic ( can't remember the model). It all sounds great and the MD and mic handle the heavy parts beautifully!

Transferred to CD using a direct to disc Harmon Kardon CDR 2 recorder into a Carver CT Seven Pre Amp using Sonic Holography circuit to beef up the soundstage
