Thunder echoed, it started to rain.
As I packed my songs away, Jenny started to sing.

Left Mississippi

The Witch of Ruby Hill

1.  A creek runs through a holler near the town of Weaverville
here no one comes alone, thorns and trees line the hill
Owls fly, Ravens cry, the air unnaturally still
Here began the legend of the witch of Ruby Hill.

2.  For 20 years hunters spoke of voices in the trees
Not owl, boar, or Ravan's call, something in between.
Cracklin Crone breaking brittle bones and desiccrated limbs
Seen only as a shadow and a scent upon the wind.

3.  Two men knew the legend, both of them know the fear
When they first came to this holler, going on 20 years
They came upon a cabin, the air unnaturally still
Their first of many visits to the witch, of Ruby Hill.

Br:  Wendy combs her hair sensing Evil on the wind.
Two men hide like two men shy, outside looking in.
Clouds part, the moon reveals two men in the shadows.
and fragments of their faces in the mirror, as it shatters.

4.  Along a traveled path by a creek in the shadows,
An old hag picks a flower by a path that she follows.
She sits beside a stone, as she's done for many years
The ground around grown barren from years, of Wendy's tears.

5.  Two men on the river, round the bend by a tree.
Bobby says look in a whisper, they shiver at what they see.
By a stone lays a body, unnaturally still.
On the path by a ditch lays the witch, of Ruby Hill

6.  One man picks a flower makes a sign in the air.
Billy lays another by the grave marker there.
The holler grew quiet, the air unnaturally still,
as both men walked away and left the witch on Ruby Hill.

Playing in the Carnival Lounge
Blinkie looking pretty in her cutoff jeans 
At 2 am the club closed down
Ronnie and the barmaid, talking trash
Passed around a jug of wine 
Dave the manager pays the band in cash
Helps keep his books in line

Locals drift in from the Heat

The smell of the crowd hangs heavy in the air

Mirror cracks and shows fragments of the day
Ernie drives the bus along, … King’s Highway
