A seasoned pairing, EANP have been powerful proponents of the Progressive House scene for a decade and nearly 200 production credits. Now making their Meanwhile debut, “The Other Side / Uncut Gems / Atoms” showcases a triumphant partnership.

Combining the talents of Ezequiel Anile and Nicolas Petracca, the Argentinean duo have been working together since 2014. Both respected DJs and producers in their own rights, they have performed behind the decks throughout their homeland alongside the likes of Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, and Nick Muir. Similarly, a sparkling portfolio has seen a plethora of original and remix material feature on the likes of Mango Alley, Juicebox Music, Reminiscence Recordings and Replug.

Joining forces with fellow countryman and legendary figure of Juan Deminicis on the opener, “The Other Side” is a chunky driving number that revels in a gently shifting percussive groove that forms a strong backbone for a series of cadenced melodic components to sit atop with majestic ease. Building a more intense head-shaking groove with every movement, effected vocal phrases add to the intensity while languid and unhurried pads add subtle juxtaposition to the dynamic dancefloor structures. The result is a stunning progressive treasure that is certain to find favour with the DJ elite.

Striding out on their own EANP continue the fizzing percussive urgency via “Uncut Gems” as shakers and closed hi-hats swing across the near 9-minute piece with club-friendly energy. A seismic sub-bass groove adds to the forceful character while Tech House characteristics shine through with angular effects and well-placed synth stab. A smooth arpeggiated sequence comes to the fore at the mid-point alongside a new melodic character as it extends into the third movement to create a hard-edged modern Progressive House jewel.

The final track finds “Atoms” creating a dominant rhythmic framework that subtly comes to life through use of a muted synth motif in perfectly metrical syncopation. A deep sub-bassline adds to the story as the track builds through its phases with swirling white-noise washes and whistling wind-effects adding atmosphere and a haunting quality. Dropping back into the devastating hypnotic groove in the second half, “Atoms” is full of atomic authority.

Taking the modern progressive house scene to new heights with its deep and tech influences, EANP have illustrated that the grass is greener on “The Other Side” with “Uncut Gems” and “Atoms” combining to make an impressive triptych.

Back for a fourth instalment of the highly successful series, “Meanwhile Excursions, Vol. 4” takes another deep exploration into the world of underground house.

First landing on GMJ & Matter’s Beatport Top 10 Progressive House label in August 2021, successive compilations have seen the “Meanwhile Excursions” series become an annual showcase of some of the scene’s most celebrated talents rubbing shoulders with the brightest new up-and-comers. The previous three incarnations have thus seen the likes of Forty Cats, amháin, Golan Zocher, Dimuth K and Zankee Gulati provide a plethora of modern progressive jewels that have sparkled each year.

Now returning for its fourth edition, label co-founder GMJ returns to lead the charge with the rippling percussive backdrop and effortless groove of “Tough Restraint” while the hefty bassline power and ethereal melodic beauty of “Astral Beats” finds Analog Jungs at their very best. The beautifully free-flowing sounds of Not Demure make an effortless entrance via “Trefua” and label debutant, Sam Scheme, shows his class with work for the likes of Balkan Connection and Droid9, via the smoothly cadenced and innovative sonic textures of “FEST”.

Another Argentinean to make an impressive label debut, Fran Garay, debuts with the haunting motifs and seismic energy of “Power of Expression”, before Hobin Rude continues his recent offensive on the progressive genre with the light, airy tones and sumptuous pads of “Gloom Gospel”. Mango Alley and Hoomidaas favourites, HAFT, provide a moment in bassline bounce and rich melodic counterpoint with “Life in Motion” while Meanwhile favourite, Simos Tagias, returns with another progressive masterclass as the rich bass cadence of “Auburn” bristles with dynamic intensity against a vibrato lead line.

Returning with solo original music alongside his Meanwhile label partner, Matter’s “Guru” hits typically rarefied heights with metronomic precision. Cadenced melodies sit atop a powerful beat as they pitch into dynamic new variations through the second half before Canadian superstar, Dowden supplies a complex percussive gem and searing synth lead across all of “Eternity”. After the success of his “Disurbia / Avalon / Crackdown” EP earlier in the year, Tonaco hits impressive heights with “Holosteric”, where a clipped percussive top-line and running bassline intensity is interspersed with textured pad progressions. The final word is left to Mango Alley regular, Maze 28, as the Albanian thrills with the shimmering bell-synth patterns and scorching lead of “Superbloom” creating a rousing finale full of brio and dancefloor vibrancy.

Back with a fourth trip across the continents, “Meanwhile Excursions, Vol. 4” is set fair for an exciting voyage across global dancefloors.
