Elliot Moriarty - Night Time Feelings (Edu Schwartz Remix)

Presenting their second release of the year, Ruben Karapetyan’s RKP imprint welcomes Nacres to the label for his debut single. With a career that spans three decades, Turkish artist Nacres was a fixture of his country’s nightlife for many years, DJing at some of Istanbul’s trendiest venues, most notably Andromeda, Club 2019 (Twenty) and Taxim Night Park. A lengthy hiatus from the industry would see Nacres return in 2018 when his career as a producer would officially begin. On the strength of early tracks 'Nibiru' and 'Grand Jete', the Turkish artist established himself amongst the progressive house community and inturn landed releases via Bonzai Records, Droid9 and his own Soundeluxe Records imprint. Now, adding RKP to his resume, Nacres debuts on the label with ‘Naturalize’, alongside remixes from Kyotto and Mayro. 

Getting the release underway and sitting as one of Nacre’s most engaging productions to date is the original mix. Warm beats and a full, rolling groove set the foundation for a narrative of phasing percussion and tranquil arps. Pushing a deep meditative mood into the break; Nacres marries wispy effects with rising modulation across the mood lifting interlude, building anticipation with each successive pass, as arpeggiated fragments open up, before eventually giving way to a thumping drop and hypnotic finale.

Making his label debut with the first interpretation of ‘Naturalize’ is Kyotto. First emerging in 2017, Sri Lankan artist Kyotto was quickly tipped as one of his country’s most promising progressive house artists. Releases via JEE Productions, Mango Alley, Sound Avenue and his own CRFT Music imprint have been recent discography highlights, while Hernan Cattaneo continues to be steadfast with support. Continuing to rise out of his country’s electronic landscape, Kyotto now debuts on RKP with a gorgeous take on ‘Naturalize’. Smooth and groovy across the first movement, Kyotto continues his stylized ways with buoyant percussive arrangements and emotive chord changes creating a smooth path into the main break. Sitting comfortably in a poignant yet thought provoking space, Kyotto’s emotive melodies rise out of calming atmospheres as the interlude evolves, adding perfectly to its meditative nature, before eventually breaking off into a heartwarming drop and charming conclusion.

Providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Naturalize’ is Mayro who also makes his label debut. Based in Argentina, Pablo Maneiro aka Mayro has been producing a blend of progressive, deep and melodic house for the better part of a decade. World class DJs Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, Miss Monique and Nick Warren have all taken a liking to his sound, which has found a home on Mango Alley, Siona Records, WARPP and his own Traful imprint. Continuing on an upwards tradegory as we enter the year’s second half, Mayro adds RKP to resume with a powerful rendition of ‘Naturalize’. Taking inspiration from the original, Mayro flexes his free-thinking muscles and crafts a version that lands comfortably between the surreal and exotic. Neatly manicured percussion and a thunderous, hip-swinging groove set the course for snatches of trippy effects, which ultimately highlight the first act. Coming to full fruition across the main break, tension rises as the primary theme emerges, while never letting go of its tranquil vibration, pushing onwards to a glowing final act.

Following on from the label's inaugural release, JFR's Secret Feelings welcomes Lucas Zárate to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Argentina, Lucas Zárate first emerged in 2022 with releases via Balkan Connection South America, Bekool Records, Droid9 South America and RYNTH. Immediately recognized for his organic and progressive sounds, the Tucumán resident would quickly earn the support of Gorje Hewek, Modd, Nick Warren and many more. 2023 has proved to be a breakout year for Lucas, building on the success of his early releases, the fast rising phenom has added trendsetting organic imprints Melody of the Soul, Peace Symphonies and RADI MIRA I LUBVI to his resume, while remaining a beloved DJ as part of his country's burgeoning nightlife. Now, continuing on an upwards trajectory, Lucas makes his debut on Secret Feelings with 'Esporas'.

The title selection sets the tone for the release and sits as one of Lucas' most distinctive tracks to date. Drifting further away from traditional organic templates, Lucas crafts a storyboard of robust rhythms, gated vocals and carnivalesque lead themes, where interwoven hooks work in a clever co-ax of sound, and an effects-laden break ties it all together for a powerful finale. Selection two 'Silk Serenade' continues the funkier lean of the EP, with well-carved, low slung basslines setting the foundation for a lively lead to percolate as percussion pushes momentum in the main break. Ghostly vocals add depth, space and perhaps most importantly a unique emotional response, perfectly setting the course for energetic final movement.

The EP's halfway point is marked by 'Leviatan', a track where phasing atmospherics and melancholic overlays create a canopy for looping percussive arrangements and arcane motifs to unite, in what is strong rhythmic drive. The main break lands appropriately and stays brief, simply building tension though modulation for what is an enthralling finale. The release concludes with 'Impetu' which offers a deeper more thought-provoking narrative, complete with a playful lead and free-form jazz-like sensibility. The main break proves to be the standout here with a captivating sequence gradually opening up into a drum flurried finale that should fair well with the more adventurous selectors out there. A fitting end to a sprawling collection of music from Lucas Zárate, an artist who not only makes an excellent Secret Feelings debut, but continues to impress and rise in the world of organic house. Highly recommended.

Tash's Movement Recordings caps off 2023 by unveiling the fourth installment of their 'ProgNoesis' series. Landing in December of 2020, the inaugural edition of 'ProgNoesis' featured an amalgamation of progressive house and melodic techno, with a cohesive blend of both new and established artists delivering genre-defying tracks. It set the course for the annual compilation series to be a highlight in the Greek imprint's release schedule. Now three volumes deep and 'ProgNoesis' has hosted the likes of Agustin Pietrocola, Chris Cargo, Der Effket, Fabri Lopez, Julian Nates, Not Demure and more. As a yearly tradition, Movement Recordings rounds out what has been a prosperous 2023, by welcoming Tash, Hyunji-A, Around Us, Fractal Architect, Ignacio Torne, Federico Cabrera, Chavi, Moogish, Arken X and Themis Georgoudis to the fourth and much-anticipated edition of 'ProgNoesis'.

Making their label debut with selection five are Federico Cabrera and Ignacio Torne. Hailing from Argentina, both Ignacio and Federico have achieved measurable success in their respective solo careers. The duo's combined discography is highlighted by projects for Balkan Connection, Electronic Groove, Massive Harmony, Nube Music, Univack and more, while their traditional take on progressive house has earned the praise of genre tastemakers Armen Miran, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and more. Now, combining their extensive forces for the first time, Federico and Ignacio debut on Movement Recordings with the chugging grooves of 'Son of the River'.

n artist with a diverse and storied relationship with the dance music scene, GMJ & Matter are proud to see Kasper Koman make his label debut with the twin-track “Sinking Sky / Biome”.

A veteran of more than a century of production credits dating back to a 2008 debut, Kasper Koman has seen his work signed to myriad high-profile labels including the likes of Plattenbank, Anjunadeep and Guy J’s Lost & Found. From central Netherlands, Kasper has combined trademark emotion with a powerful and evocative sound that has seen his music supported by such leading tastemakers as Guy Mantzur, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J himself.

Now debuting on Meanwhile, the “Sinking Sky” opener is characterised by a driving beat and metronomic hi-hat pattern. A running 16th note bassline pattern enters the fray in the second movement with a fizzing vibrancy provided by resonating and filtered effects. A cast of additional characters add to the overall sonic landscape including a beautifully juxtaposed pad progression. A spine-tingling breakdown provides acetylene-edged emotion via the extended bassline motif, before hitting its stride once more in the latter stages to wondrous effect and no small amount of production talent.

“Biome” continues the narrative of raw effects-laden power, while a strong kick lays the foundation for a piercing percussive groove, adding swing to the off-beat. A well-crafted sonic palette supplies a soft chord progression of Kraftwerk-inspired imagination as a meandering array of well-placed effects, white-noise washes and rasping bass notes create a mosaic of sounds. The result is a hypnotic, angular offering that keeps listener interest piqued without a central melody seeing the 6-minute piece fly past in an instant.

A welcome return to the world of progressive house sees Kasper Koman enchant and enthral with “Sinking Sky / Biome”.
