We live at a time when distractions from reality are never further away than our fingertips. Our phones offer us unlimited stimulation and temporary comfort. The possibilities of technology are endless, but they also limit the possibility…the possibility to truly experience and submit to the moment.

For me, going to a club has always been about letting go of the world around me, like a vacation from the nagging realities of everyday life. In the best clubs I have been to, the people were united by a desire to experience electronic music in the purest sense; to get lost in its tension and release. No matter what was going on in their lives, it was a place where, for at least a few hours, nothing else mattered but the sheer power music had to bring people joy. And those experiences - held only by those in that room, at that moment - were almost like the reward to submitting to a secret society. At the end of the night, I could look at my friends, old and new, and without saying a single word, we'd know that what we experienced together was something special, something that would never quite be repeated again.

Some of my early clubbing experiences have stayed with me for my entire life. They are why I'm doing what I'm doing today. There is not a photo, forum thread or social media post in existence to mark their happening, but the memories, the emotions I felt, the way those nights changed my life - those things stay with me to this day.

Somewhere along the way, we as a society have lost the ability to experience those special moments. On the rare occasion that they do happen, we scramble to grab our phones in time to capture them - but those moments cannot be truly captured - and they don’t need to be broadcasted or recorded. Sometimes, the best thing we can do is fully appreciate what is happening in that room, at that moment, with those people around us. 

I think our society needs clubbing experiences where they go home with more than just a picture to post on instagram. That's why I'm starting This Never Happened - I want to create that experience for people.

At This Never Happened, we invite you into a space where the only thing that matters are the people in that room, the music and the magic that happens when those things interact. An event where the dancefloor will be a phone and photo-free space.

This experience we share together may, by 2016 standards, have never happened. But those who dare will always know - something special did happen here. 

The first show will be a return to my hometown of San Francisco on 3 June at Mezzanine. It's a venue I've dreamed of headlining for many years and the perfect place to start this new chapter. If we can make this happen - and work - together, there will be many, many more. 

This Never Happened will not just be the name of these events, but also the name of a new record label. This label will be the outlet for music, by me, that is inspired by and made for this experience. The first song I'm releasing is called "Fingerprint" and you can listen to it below.

Putting this project together with my team over the last 6 months triggered a creative spark in me unlike anything I've ever felt before, and I'm so excited for you guys to hear the music I've come up with during that time.

In July 2017, "Glass Elevator" hit the Proton Music catalogue with its driving rhythmic foundations and flowing melodic lines. Now returning courtesy of a Particles remix edition, both the title track and partner track, "Polaris", are reworked by Sri Lankan and German talents.

From the Colombo capital on the glistening Indian Ocean cost, Dimuth K has hit upon a formula for success with his unique brand of underground house. With an innate passion for dance music growing inside him from an early age, Dimuth found himself performing in Sri Lanka's finest clubs alongside the likes of Guy J, Jeremy Olander and Cid Inc. The world of music production opened up in 2013, ultimately leading to a debut on Big Toys Production in mid-2015. Going on to produce a raft of original and remix material for such leading imprints as Black Hole, Balkan Connection and Movement Recordings, the Dimuth K sound has been recognised at home with a "Best DJ/Producer" award in 2017. As his reputation continues to grow far beyond his island home, support has come from Nick Warren, Max Graham and Hernan Cattaneo. A September 2017 Particles debutant with a remix of Tim Penner's "Lost Again", Dimuth K returns to the label with a typically mature offering that clearly resonates with the original as the melodic refrains from "Glass Elevator" drift across a deep and multi-faceted breakdown. A driving rhythm and ticking hi-hat percussive cadence provides dancefloor credentials with a subtle, subterranean bassline in force, to create an impressive remix.

An artist with abundant talent, Stephan Pietack, has been at the cutting edge of the underground scene since the mid-2000s with his MoodFreak moniker. Inspired by the "groove and depth" brought to the scene by such acts as Boom Jinx and Hybrid, Pietack hit the production trail with impressive results. Supported by the DJ elite of Above and Beyond, Armin Van Buuren and Paul Oakenfold and with remixes for Arty, Dennis Shepherd and Van Buuren himself, the MoodFreak name has certainly reached the highest echelons of the industry. Thus, over a century of production credits can be found next to the MoodFreak name for industry giants including Silk Music, Enhanced and Coldharbour. Forming the YOMO imprint alongside the iconic figure of Mike Koglin has further cemented an impressive reputation. Finding himself drawn to Berlin's deeper, underground side in recent times, a penchant for tech house and techno has begun to feature in the MoodFreak production arsenal as he now makes his debut on Particles with an outstanding remix of "Polaris". Retaining the hypnotic melodic framework of the original, anchored by driving beat and off-beat hi-hat percussion. The rhythmic stabs of the original filter into sonic range providing the basis for a shimmering and free-flowing lead line that features post-breakdown, with an acid-tinged, bassline providing the perfect aural accompaniment. The result is a beautifully understated affair that creates a wonderful reworking of "Polaris".

With the "Glass Elevator" shooting skywards once more, superb remixes from Dimuth K and MoodFreak can be found within.

Afterlife Recordings proudly presents ‘Nude’, the debut album of Swiss duo Adriatique. It’s Adrian Shala and Adrian Schweizer’s most personal artistic statement yet, a collection of songs, capturing their feelings and memories.
The two Adrians’ close friendship and complementary skill sets have helped develop Adriatique into one of the most esteemed acts on the house and techno circuit. Their releases since 2011 have come through leading labels such as Diynamic, Cityfox and their own imprint, Siamese. They signed to Afterlife early in 2018 with the club-ready single ‘Ray’. It followed a remix of Tale Of Us & Vaal’s anthemic ‘Monument’ and announced Adriatique as a core artist both on Afterlife Recordings and at their events in Ibiza as well as
worldwide.
‘Nude’ is the most diverse and adventurous record in the catalogs of both artist and label. It switches between slick, downtempo electronica and driving club fare without breaking stride. Afforded the freedom that comes with a full-length album, we hear another side of Adriatique.

KOMPAKT welcomes back three dear friends – Copenhagen’s WhoMadeWho. Tomas Barfod’s penchant for electronic music poetically juxtaposed with Tomas Høffding and Jeppe Kjellberg’s respective backgrounds in rock and jazz, gives their music an electrifying combination of sounds, merging a variety of influences to produce a unique sonic fingerprint that is emotive, irresistible and immensely satisfying.

Though we both have yet to strike a note together since the release of their 2012 full length “Brighter” (KOM 254), WhoMadeWho have been remarkably productive. With two full lengths, a DJ mix for Watergate’s series and releasing two of 2019’s most played out club tracks together with Rampa (Innervisions) and Artbat (Watergate Records), the trio have found themselves diving more and more into the world of electronic music, tapping into their goldmine of connections within the scene to spearhead an array of collaborations.

The result is Synchronicity – a series of 3 EP’s then a full length album to be released throughout 2020 on KOMPAKT.

We start things off with a collaboration with Ireland’s finest dance music export, Mano Le Tough. “Oblivion” is a dream matrimony which is blissfully charged by an emotional beat and swaying vocals. Barcelona’s Marc Piñol has been an extended part of the Kompakt family thanks to his connections to the Nitsa family and our adoration for his DJing and releases on labels such as Hivern Discs and Black Money. Laid back and severely sexy, “Sooner” sways the soul with its disco flared passion. Another artist we cannot get enough of is Berlin’s Perel – she brings her singular vision of Neue Deutsche Welle to a classic WhoMadeWho beat on “Der Abend Birgt Keine Ruh”. It’s a duet like none other. Last but not least, Frank Wiedemann is famed for his work as half of Âme and also as a member of The Howling. Thanks to a pre-lockdown recording session in Berlin, they all came up with two singles – the first we can share is “Peter Pan Me" where they take pull and restraint approach that lets Tomas and Jeppe’s vocals cry with a forcefulness and passion which is set to remain in your head forever after.
