Was It A Dream

Sea Lion introduces the world to her music via 'Sanna's Song', a haunting ode to a friend. 
Recorded at home, in her bedroom in Gothenburg, Sweden, 'Sanna's Song' showcases the mesmerising voice of Sea Lion (real name Linn Osterberg) within a slow-burning ballad built on finger-picked guitar and warm, analogue organ.
Sea Lion will be supporting Cate Le Bon on her UK Tour which begins this week, including an appearance in front of a sold out crowd at Islington Assembly Hall, London.

Songhoy Blues have announced details of the release of their debut album, Music In Exile, which is released on Transgressive Records on Monday 23rd February 2015.

Once one of the most prominent and powerful of Mali’s many ethnic groups, the Songhoy, who hail from the banks of the Niger River between the ancient cities of Timbuktu and Gao, have suffered a long slow decline since their apogee in the 6th and 17th centuries. Now largely living on the margins of the West African nation whose political and cultural life is dominated by the Bambara people of the south, they nonetheless retain a fierce pride in their history, beliefs and music.

Vocalist Brad Barr: “The event that inspired this song was the 1997 killing of 7 young girls in the park on the Island of Peace, on the Jordan river, along the border between Israel and Jordan. It was designated a peaceful place, where Israeli and Jordanian kids could play together without fear. One day a Jordanian soldier open fired on a group of Israeli girls, aged 13 and 14, killing 7 of them. Israel was created in a moment of compassion, national interest, and delusion. ‘On the day that you were born, legions laid down their arms/On the day you lost control, legions leapt for your throat’.”

Go Satta’s spaced-out Jamaican Dub is tenderly charming your ears and keeps you walking with your feet up in the air while smoking a big spliff when you walk down to Tobago’s Pigeon Point in slow motion. Mikael Fas zooms back in time to the 1970s when Jean Michel Jarre filled football stadiums with analogue synthesizer sounds. He turns “Holy Water” into the perfect soundtrack for a fast night flight in your DeTomaso Pantera, from L.A. down to San Diego. Bulbs of Held present a psyched out 90s indie trip, with a beautiful acoustic guitar, some Bevis Frond and early Flaming Lips-feel – beautiful! David Garcet’s emo house adaptation is slightly influenced by Michael Mayer remixes, it has a great build-up, a warm vibe, exactly what you need, driving home in the the early Ibiza mornings, when the sun comes up in the East of the island and the person next to you has a big smile on her/his face. An amazing remix package for music lovers! And the second track by Lights of the Coast, Seychelles, just fits perfectly to the Go Satta and David Garcet remixes, a dizzy summer anthem with steel-drums, rolling wave sounds and heavenly choirs, just before the already legendary surprising dream-wave switch...badass!

Seamus Fogarty’s debut, God Damn You Mountain, is a collection of songs recorded over the past couple of years, streaked with many different colours and textures: the lush green apples of ‘Appletrees’, the flowing blue waters of ‘By The Waterside’, the sodden yellow t-shirt stranded atop of ‘God Damn You Mountain’.  The first side of vinyl is awash with layers of sound, floating over one another, creating an entrancing collage.  Spiralling tape loops squiggle next to digital feedback and warped delay, all wrapped in Seamus’s vocals and mesmeric guitar. The last track on that side, ‘Rita Jack’s Lament’, remixes and folds in upon itself to stunning effect.

On Side B everything is stripped back to its core. Seamus’s vocals are left almost naked, shivering without a shirt on their back, next to a lone violin on the title track, while the remaining songs are  accompanied only by sparse banjo or guitar, and slight percussion.  By the final tune, ‘The Evening Lay Down Upon Us’, everything is brought full circle – with Seamus teasing in samples, and summoning all manner of odd noises and audio ghosts. You’ll want to play it all over again to be sure it wasn’t a dream.
