Let's meet our dj for episode 560, DJ LIGHTA:

1. Tell us about your radio show DUB to JUNGLE:

My radio show has been running for 15yrs, what started off on Peace FM 90.1 and changed to Legacy 90.1 FM. I specialise in foundation Dub music and Jungle from early 90’s to present. We are based in the heart of South Manchester on the border of Hulme and Moss-Side.  This all started from pirate radio back in the 90’s in Manchester, it’s the only way to hear underground music on radio back then, most of the stations got raided, sick of the establishment, things had to change. A lot of gun and knife crime was going on in our neighbourhood, that’s how Peace FM came along to give a voice for the community and help stop the gang violence around South Manchester. Many sound men and DJs got on board and provided the best legit radio station playing all that music you don’t hear on mainstream radio and talk shows to discuss the problems in our area.

2. Tell us about the great relationship you and grandson have:

We have a wonderful relationship, he took a big interest in music from being around six months old, it’s like he has been here before. I have never seen such a young child take an interest in music like he has done. The beauty of it, it’s all natural, him doing his own thing. He loves playing records and checking out the artwork on the sleeves, I know who will be inheriting my records. He just turned 3 and is still learning more about music all the time. He will be mixing tunes in a few years hahaha.

3. Tell us about some of your proudest pieces of artwork:

I have been drawing for many years now, I've done quite a lot of pieces for vinyl releases. I would say my best moment was when I did an album cover for Scientist, the dub legend. That was about 10yrs ago. We have done many projects together. Some are still in production to be pressed on vinyl and are awaiting a release date, some we are still working on today.

I also work with 2 of my best friends that I have known since infants school. Response & Pliskin, 2 brothers from the same neighbourhood as me, owners of Northern Front Records, I love how some of my controversial art gets put on NFR releases. It rattled a few cages with some people. Hahaha!! On our 7th release that is currently being pressed and should be out very soon.

Antares is a dark and atmospheric, break heavy Jungle project by Josh Stotz.  Conceived in January of 2019, as the Illicit project was put to bed, influenced by darker cinematic landscapes and ambient works.  Part of Ballpark Recordings, Force Recordings, Cause 4 Concern LTD, Hangry Records, Suicide Audio, Monkey Business, Locked Up Music and always more in the works.  Older releases under the Illicit name can be found on Ruffah Ras Records, Mos-Hi, Top Ranking Records, Nuff Stylez (France), and Hum-Fi Drum Digital.  Antares aims to bring a darker cinematic soundscape to modern Jungle.
