RUFUS! - System Shock [Out Now]

His name may be new to fans here in the UK but that doesn’t mean that BLVCK COVVBOYS should be a name to be slept on. The American-hailing producer takes inspiration from his time in indie rock and his time as a DJ, he has a sound which shows that he is not uncomfortable with fusing together elements from different genres. In his own words, BLVCK COVVBOYS likes to cruise around, making grime, hip-hop and dub at around 120-140 BPM.

After dropping both the ‘Rachel’ and the ‘Finger On The Trigger’ EPs last year, the latter project featuring remixes by the likes of Dubzta and John Brown The Rebel, the producer has an impending new release on J Beatz’s Crown Jules label called the ‘Gunslinger’ EP, showcasing his ability to make ‘Flight Mode’ music, calm and melodic in feel while also injecting hefty doses of bass to put some energy into the EP.

‘Flight Mode’ doesn't have to fit any particular genre, the slow paced riddims create an ambience with the intent of making a listener put their feet up and drift off into a state of relaxation. Chill out vibes are what ‘Flight Mode’ deals with and in ‘Gunslinger’, the EP offers a representation of those flavours in full effect. Crown Jules is a strong fit for the EP to be on, J Beatz being a keen advocate of pushing the mellow yet purposeful sound.

The United States is a place that has been paying more attention to underground music in the UK in recent years. Making grime from an American point of view is at the forefront of BLVCK COVVBOYS’ thinking, perfecting his craft while trying to make a name for himself in a scene that he has been an avid follower of, all the way from Asheville, North Carolina or as he prefers, the Horsehead Nebula.
