Rugged Society Records return with the debut album of Amsterdam-based artist Love Ape. Inspired by the calming effect nature can have on the human mind following his travels and walks in nature, Love Ape shares his debut longer player brimming with warm sounds and rich ambience. The whole project is completely DIY, from mixing and mastering to filming, editing and artwork. The "Mind Dive" clip was filmed in Vietnam right at the start of the lock-down, capturing the spirit of the developing situation.

LOVE APE was formed in 2019 as a new alias for Moiety. A Dutch DJ/producer based in Amsterdam (NL).

During his travels and walks in nature he was inspired by the calming effect nature can have on the human mind. He felt music can have this same effect and this translated into a new music production style that was more leaned towards the listener than the club.
The sound can be described as warm, organic and full of ambience.
A mixture of house, dub techno, balearic, broken beats, trip hop and ambient.

The debut album “ZEN” will be released on the 10th of May of 2021 on Rugged Society Records.
Although the tracks maybe in very different styles, they were all made in a deeply focussed and almost meditative state. This inspired the name “ZEN” which is a practice in meditation which creates the same state of mind.

The album consists out of 10 tracks that were all created in different times, but naturally came together when APE created its debut album in 2020. Right in the middle of the Covid pandemic.

After seven years since this Dutch duo released their infamous “Attic edits EP”, Moiety & Manik are back. Voodoo Hoodoo is their brand new 3-track EP filled with psychedelic analog heat for dance-floors and tribal rituals. Each track tells its own story from voodoo scenes to deep water worlds. This EP won’t let itself be defined by genres, but the style can be described as percussion driven electronic music that will play with your imagination and take you on a trip.

Manik is also known as Jo Bissa, half of Umoja and is founder of the well established record label called INI Movement.
Moiety has just recently released his new album called ‘ZEN’ for his alias LOVE APE and is also known for his releases on INI Movement.

The duo gained big success with their Attic Edits EP, which received millions of streams without any significant promotion.

As their production skills and taste for different musical influences developed, they held a jam session in mid 2020. This resulted in the Voodoo Hoodoo project, where everything came together
and formed their new electronic tribal sound.

For the second edition of Rugged Sessions we have invited the multi-talented Adam Stromstedt. The Sydney based DJ/Producer has had some excellent releases on labels like KANN, Banoffee-pies, Gestalt Records, Bossmusik and more. 
Adam is also host of his own radio show called Always Sometimes and he is co-founder of Lyssna Records. He has recorded a beautiful laidback 1 hour mix for us filled with soulful and dubby house with a lot of warm jazz influences. Just like his production style, this is right our cup of tea. For the 4th edition of Rugged Sessions, we have invited our talented friend from Leeds, Joe Morris. Joe is part of Clandestino, hosts a monthly radio show on Loose FM and runs his own record label called Shades Of Sound. 
His unique sound balances somewhere between house, balearic, ambient and leftfield and was released on numerous labels over the years, such as: Is it Balearic..?, Paper recordings, Midnight Riot, Wonder Stories, Balearic Social and more. 
He has created a very nice deep, dreamy and downtempo musical journey for us. Sit back and enjoy !

Back in 2019 the first release on the label was the Dylosium EP from Mens Aperta. That deep and dreamy techno sound was also captured around the same time in this mix. Mens Aperta (meaning: open mind) seeks the depths in techno, dub techno and other electronic music. 

We have some really exciting new Mens Aperta works coming out on Rugged Society later this year. Keep an eye and ear out for those.

Following up on the first single release for the upcoming album, Mens Aperta's new single "Sentinel" is a deep and trippy techno/house groove. Dragging drones, a deep evolving bass pattern and rhythms that keep the groove steady to keep the rave in movement.
While the first single release (Nobium) from the upcoming album was more exploring the electro influences from the artist. This single is exploring more the ravey side of the artist, mainly focusing on groove. Both tracks demonstrate just how versatile this dutch producer
and the new album are.

PREMIERE: LOVE APE - Heatwaves [Rugged Society]

Ever since the first EP “Attic Edits” was released in 2012. The duo Moiety & Manik have been experimenting with a lot of different music projects and sounds. Even though the two long time friends have developed a more distinct and different style in their solo work, each time when they found time to jam together in the studio their energy was special and brought an interesting fusion. This resulted in their second EP “Voodoo Hoodoo” which was released on Rugged Society in 2021. While the first EP was clearly based on creative editing of lost and forgotten gems from the past (which got a lot of attention because of the track “You’re Gone” that seemed to blow up overnight), Voodoo Hoodoo was an EP that took a turn to electronic and tribal music with a unique take on it. Finally after 3 years the 3rd EP “YOU” is ready to be shared with the world. Again this is another turn in music style and as playful and creative as always, but now inspired by soul, hip hop and the electronic music they love. Enjoy!

Fran Seven is an artist and producer from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He has developed a strong focus on electronic music inspired by a wide variety of styles and ideas, as well as the endless depth of space and the mysterious, yet fascinating world of quantum mechanics. Fran's style blurs the lines between melodic downtempo, ambient minimalistic beats and was first to be heard on his debut EP "Ripples in Time" which was released by Atomnation in 2014.

You can expect lush soundscapes, swirling melodic patterns and so much more to add focus and depth to the artist's vibrant compositions. in the vein of artists like Bonobo, Tycho, Nathan Fake, Jon Hopkins or Max Cooper, Fran Seven is all about building steady melodic layers that set the bar higher, creating a dense and immersive listening experience for the audience. Fran Seven's production style is packed with layers of dreamy and rhythmic arpeggios and sequences that keep evolving throughout each song and make his style unique.
