Wait For Approval



I heard they call the dove a symbol,
All pale wings and borrowed holiness,
But I’ve seen how its promises loosen
When the seasons shift.
Soft feathers don’t always keep faith warm.

And the swan—
Beautiful, yes.
Necks curved like a whispered promise,
Bodies moving like water learned a love language.
But even swans wander,
Even swans drift from the vows they made at dawn
And return at dusk pretending nothing changed.

But the raven—
The raven never leaves the one he chooses.
He stands beside her through every winter,
Raises every child,
Shields every small heartbeat that holds their likeness.
When she’s gone,
He doesn’t search for a replacement;
He pours the rest of his years
Into the young she left behind—
Grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
Strays gathered from storms
And folded into the same wide loyalty
That shaped his life.

He becomes the quiet backbone of his clan,
A shadow that watches without turning away,
A sentinel of devotion
With no audience,
No applause,
Just purpose.

And when he calls—
Not soft, not gentle,
But layered, resonant,
A sound carved from history—
You can hear how deep love can live
Without needing spectacle.
You can hear a promise
That never learned how to break.

People forget this:
Light doesn’t equal purity.
Dark doesn’t equal doom.
Some hearts shine brightest
Under wings that never needed white to feel holy.

And truthfully—
Most of us would become better lovers,
Better partners,
Better guardians,
If we lived even one lifetime
With a raven’s certainty.

A heart that chooses once.
A heart that stays.
A heart that protects everything
Born from its one true yes.
