It's Advent Day 23, it's my birthday, and it's time to get the party started in style with this brand-new and exclusive Breakbeat mix from the Drumattic Twins!

Reaching out after our call out for content for this year's Advent calendar, Nick Slater kindly offered his services and after a proper dig through his music collection, he has turned out another epic mix for us to share with you all. I was lucky enough to receive the mix a couple of days ago and after rinsing it proper, all I can say is that my senses are on fire! Music from the best label on the planet, Finger Lickin' Records, is well-represented because as you all know, that has been the home of the Drumattic Twins for so many years, but there are lots of other forgotten-about treats from around the time of when FLR was in it's pomp. Nick told me he had a massive amount of fun putting this mix together and it can be heard, loud and very clear! Have a great one, party people!

Advent Day 23: Drumattic Twins - LSM Advent Mix 2023

This set was first performed on January 1st 2024 in San Francisco at the Breakfast of Champions block party on the Space Cowboys main stage.

A RE:CONSTRUCTED set is a *long* way removed from a standard DJ set. It's a live/hybrid set.

Simon takes hundreds of tracks from his huge library, painstakingly deconstructs them (using Ai if needed to separate elements from the original tracks), and then pieces everything back together to create a hugely emotive and immersive musical story.

He uses Ableton Live and multiple controllers to trigger up to 16 individual channels of audio at any one time during the performance, and also performs live keyboard overdubs. The end result is a hugely addictive, compulsive and compelling blend of music that's often new, often familiar but always utterly unique.

The track has vocals, triangle, and cowbell from the original, lifted up on a deep warm 808 bass line with acid rolls and stabs all around. Come for the energetic and playful kick + bass interplay, stay for the acid groove and orchestral chorus.

What can I say except that BOC is always my favorite party of the year because I get to see all of your beautiful faces! 2023 was particularly challenging for me, so it’s all the more special start the year in this way and to receive so many hugs, and have such deep and meaningful conversation. The best part is always seeing your joy and dancing from behind the decks. We spend so much time crafting a set and experience that we think you’ll enjoy, and the look on your faces is most certainly the payoff! I hope you’ll enjoy listening to this mix and reliving the moments from that beautiful, sunny day. I was surrounded with family, from near and far, and I’m so grateful for each and every one of you, and for this experience, always.

So here's a mix I did in 2012! Looking back I can tell this was a little love letter to the florida breaks sound that was so transformative to me both as a dancer and as a DJ. Of course it's through the ekb* filter but I think the fun I was having in miami as well as the undeniable energy there comes through in this mix. I hope you love it as much as I do, this one is a bit special to me. :)
