NYTT LAND 'Fimbulvinter' CD (CSR234CD)

Second edition of Nytt Land's 2017 album, which quickly sold out on first pressing.

Notably outstanding on the Russian scene and largely compared with the legendary Wardruna, NYTT LAND are unique in their devotion to ritual Northern music and tradition. Their approach, using genuine native hand-crafted instruments, and true Old Norse, help them to grasp the true spirit of ancient Northern music like no one in Eastern Europe has done before. Their music is mostly based on the sources from Poetic Edda, performed in original Old Islandic.

"Fimbulvinter" is enriched with instruments like bagpipes and trembita (Alpine horn), and throat singing skillfully used to illustrate the occurrence of the forces of chaos; chthonic monsters in the world of men and gods. Fear and powerlessness alongside belief in the coming revival, renewal.

All Scandinavian mythology is permeated with fatalism, humbleness to fate. The same mood saturates "Fimbulvinter". The first part is dedicated to the creation of the world and people, embodying the warm seasons. The second half to winter, the death of all living things.

King Aelle of Northumbria, according to some historical accounts, was responsible for the death of Viking hero Ragnar Lothbrok. Aelle had him thrown into a pit full of venomous snakes. "How the little pigs would grunt," Ragnar is reported to have said, "if they knew how the old boar suffers!" The "little pigs," Ragnar's term of endearment for his sons, did more than grunt. I vocalized only the first part a while ago.. but I was inspired. All rights ofcourse go to Wardruna, if you like them buy everything they have! :D

Parts of the song are mixed with the original song because I'm simply horrible with percussion and I think it sounds pretty cool. :3

I played the drones and the dreamy spacey sounds are also done by me working happily and crazy on the Tyros 4 (on which I play rarely), all the vocals are done by me and all in all this was just an amazing piece to work on..

I will probably try to make it even more awesome because there's still a lot I want to work on but so far I'm fucking happy okay.

Through old, partly ancient instruments, I want to kindle the spirit of our ancestors. What does viking music mean to me? Old, gnarly and rough instruments, aged by the salt of the seas. Whereas medieval tracks resonate with the zeitgeist of the according lifestyle back then. I want you to feel the incredible, overwhelming raw power of music, composed, produced and lived by my heart.
