“This EP was made after I realised that what inspired me most was to combine my love of electronic music with the music I enjoy outside of the club. I decided to collaborate with friends from a couple of my favourite bands, including Fay Milton (Savages) who provides live drums on Motorik Bush Doof Musik and Taigen Kawabe (Bo Ningen) who performs on I Never Cared That Much For Jungle. For me, having live instrumentation on the EP adds an extra depth to the tracks & has given me a vision of how to I’d like future releases to sound.
My fave track off the EP, Growing Up With Muscle Cars, is an homage to my step dad who repairs and restores old muscle cars. He also used to take me to the drags in my hometown when I was little. We would push the race cars out onto the track. Some of my favourite memz as a lil kid.”

Fever AM label co-founder and hybrid club producer Mor Elian provides a spaced out take on ‘Fish Bowl’ full of angular drums and woozy synths. For his take on ‘Test Tubes’, Hammer formulates a steady groover for the after hours.

And so Especial comes to its 30th release. As with the EES010 and EES020 the 12" is given over as a "Sampler EP" of alternate versions, dubs and unreleased cuts that deserve their time in the spotlight. Again featuring a label's who's who, with Fairplay, Paton and Baha appearing, but also new crews in vogue with Roy Of The Ravers back, joined by the esteemed Freeform Five plus a debut from Bal5000.

First up, sees the return of Junior Fairplay in the mixing desk hands of the ever kenetic Roy Of The Ravers. After turning in a twisted bleeptastic remix on Junior's recent "Faxes From The Future" EP (EES029), here in the aptly titled Remix 2, Roy strips everything back for a succinct and short stormer. Deeper, dubbier, dirtier, Roy does the acid-tinged bass and kick better than any, snapping those hats to ride.

Next comes another of those Jamie Paton reversions that slowly seep in your brain for days. He's all there and more, taking Freeform Five's digi-only Throwing Stones and with drudge beats, soft keys, drunk-funk pads, snap-claps and 909 kick all underpinning (Ali Love's) dubbed vocals to the haunting refrain only he can find. Another Paton love dub for the more open-minded DJ to melt hearts and minds. 

On the flip, we are delighted to release on vinyl Kris Baha's now cult retake of those brightest stars, Red Axes. Only previously released by brethren Multi Culti as an digi-only for the Waiting For A Surprise Remixes EP, after many years of cat calls and reminders, here at last for the vinyl heads is this monster drug-thug. Recorded some 3 years back when Baha was a relatively unknown, now a debut LP imminent for dem CockTail's boyz, this is right time for such a club killer to be spun loud and proud. 

To close, a new "Kids" on the block. Picked up on and then sat on for too long, Bal5000 has since had an acclaimed EP for our Invisible Inc. friends in the north and so it's right to let this pure electro flyer...fly. Coming on like a 6am party lifter, the electro beats nod to Geist and Jesrani, but with it's own funk and vibe that just keeps going higher and higher until the nods are smiles and smiles are skips and shuffles to the beat (the street). 

After 26 releases in 3 crazy years, last years solo (Paton) release was a nice stop and breath, so where Especial goes next is unknown. With some discoveries now flown the coup and new headz bringing their own new sound, plans are afoot to keep on keeping on and to bring something old and new to the floor...or the door. You choose.

B1. Red Axes - Waiting For A Surprise (Kris Baha Remix)

Hotflush presents a ten-track album of previously unheard music produced by Scuba during the early part of the five-year run of his legendary SUB:STANCE party at Berghain. From July 2008, SUB:STANCE opened the Berlin institution up to a new set of aesthetics, sparking a conversation between UK artists and Germany's most vibrant music centre. The party eventually spread further afield, with a residency in New York and showcases held around the world, before coming to a considered end with a final party at Berghain and Panorama Bar in July 2013, exactly five years after the first edition. On SUB:STANCE in Retrograde, Scuba cultivates the sonic aesthetic established in the UK in the incubative period of dubstep, whilst incorporating the fruits of an exploration of textures, drum patterns and acoustics. Consisting entirely of unreleased music which has spent almost a decade on undisturbed hard drives, SUB:STANCE in Retrograde reflects a period of growth for Scuba, documenting an exchange of ideas that continues to unfold to this day.

To wrap a momentous year of memorable events and stellar music, The Cityfox Odyssey: NYE & NYD (bit.ly/CFNYE2019) has been especially programmed to kick start another with in an extraordinary musical voyage. Leading the expedition is a carefully assembled roster of house and techno heavyweights such as Tale of Us, Jamie Jones and Lee Burridge, alongside Cityfox artists and dear friends, both old and new - Adriatique, Atish, and WhoMadeWho - just to name a few. Among them, we are delighted to host the original “super-house” heroes: Andhim. 

So, in anticipation of The Odyssey, and another trip round the sun, the duo has curated this uplifting Foxcast, to remember the great times, and look onwards for more. 

Originating from Cologne, Andhim was immediately lauded for their funky upbeat sound in 2010 when minimal was all the rage. Unique and signature, their sets caught the attention of the Get Physical imprint, on which “The Wizard of Us” was released in 2013. Their own musical odyssey led them to creating their own label, Superfriends in 2016, when they self-categorized themselves as “super-house," lest they be pigeonholed to any genre in particular. To Andhim, it's simple: make and play happy and carefree music.

The duo kicks off this Foxcast with a groovy, melodic symphony of synthesized sounds that sets the tone to hypnotize for the entire hour, a taste of what’s to come on NYE. Bouncy bass lines weave through an atmospheric, spacey soundscape provided by tracks like “Sideral (BCN Version)” byTalaboman, “All Is Well” by Jarry, and Rüfüs Du Sol’s Underwater (Adam Port Remix). 

With such positive vibes, 2019 is looking bright already.

A Sagittariun’s third album chronicles the journey back to Telepathic Heights; an expedition that encounters many obstacles along the way. The feuding parties of the two planets make for a journey of determination and self-discovery for our techno lone ranger that will ultimately deliver him to the sacred site on which Telepathic Heights stands. 
Conceived as a space western soundtrack to the cinematic interpretation of this tale, Return To Telepathic Heights delivers ten chapters that journal the ultimate mission to reach the imposing tower of Telepathic Heights, where dream telepathy has become the primary communicative tool amongst its peaceful and harmonious community who have opted out of the planetary war that continues to rage, seemingly with no armistice anytime soon. 
The score fittingly winds its way through the trials and tribulations of this journey, blending minimal and harmonic rhythms, industrial funk, dreamy synthwave and transcendental techno into the rich tapestry of music that documents the ‘Return To Telepathic Heights’. 
The album features original artwork by Johnny Bruck, fully licensed, and taken from the legendary German science fiction novel series, ‘Perry Rhodan’, which ran weekly from the early 1960s, and was the most successful sci-fi book series ever written.
