Disquiet Junto Project 0700: View Frame
The Assignment: Share a peek out your window and some sounds inspired by the view.
Step 1: Take a photo out your window, with a little bit of the frame in view. Show people a glimpse of your world.
Step 2: Record a short, simple piece of music inspired (or otherwise informed) by what you see.

Framing the view [disquiet0700]

Sound Ripples is a sound installation by Marco Sebastiano Alessi, created for the Sapporo Tenjinyama Art Studio. Inspired by the cultural legacy of the Ainu people, Alessi and members of the online music community Naviar Records reflected on the roots of their own local traditions, and created sounds inspired by the landscapes and stories of their respective environments.
Combining field recordings from across Japan, ambient compositions by Naviar Records’ community, and sounds captured during Alessi’s time in Sapporo, this installation invites listeners to experience sound as a vessel of memory, transmission, and transformation.
This immersive experience aims to highlight the importance of music as a connector that brings cultures into dialogue: a medium that transcends space and time to build bridges between distant communities.

This was my contribution for Disquiet Junto Project 0700: View Frame. The Assignment: Share a peek out your window and some sounds inspired by the view.

Image of our front yard was taken through one of the bedroom windows. We’re lucky to live in a home surrounded by conifers and native California oaks. The calming view of the trees from the windows in some rooms make it seem like we’re in a forest rather than in a neighborhood with other people. I tried to convey the placid mood here. 

This was created in Ableton Live using Slate+Ash Choreographs, Spectres and Orchestral Tools Mirrors. Effects used were Soundtoys Spaceblender, Aberrant DSP SketchCassette II  and builtin reverb. A field recording from the front yard with a water fountain, birds, wind chimes and other ambient sounds was layered in. It was recorded using a Zoom F3 with right angle Pluggy mics. Happy 700th Disquiet Junto! Here’s to many more in the years ahead.

A second, more synth-based, demo of a new Mystery plugin that Hannes Pasqualini (Papernoise) let me have a beta of. Once again, I can't tell you the name or what it does, but it's used on every track here except for the synth bass.
Gear used: Eurorack Modular (Braids, Peaks, Ripples, Clouds, Double Andore mk 1, Q.C.D. and Meta Sequencer), Roland AIRA System 1 & Promars plugout, Roland Juno 106.

UPDATE: As the plugin's now been announced I can reveal it's name: Frosting, it's a freeze plugin if you hadn't already guessed.
