Back in 2010 James Pants proved to us yet again that he was (and still is) the Mix-Tape Master. As usual the selection was deeeeep + we hardly knew any of the tracks back then - many have since come to light and been repressed on various re-issue labels so you'll def recognize a few. So impressed were we that our store pressed up a limited CD edition for giveaway. Now here it is to stream!

Rush Hour x VF Live 07: Palo Santo Discos

Sadar Bahar's dreams are captured in grooves. After years and years of digging deep for records, the Chicagoan built a collection that's too big to fit in his house. Although he has collected more records than he could possibly play, his search doesn't stop, and drops by our store from time to time to see dig the racks.

Bahar got into the music scene in the early '80s, with childhood friend, Charles Brekenridge, who introduced him to the mixing game and taught him how to blend records. Later, Frankie Knuckles showed him the magic of the dance floor. During this time, Chicago was filled with DJ’s who played house and disco sounds. However, Sadar chose a different direction - playing rare & hard-to-find grooves. It is an honor to present this mix, that features a selection picks found in the RH store racks on the day.

Stunning mix! Volcov blessed us with a warm winter we think… The DJ and producer from Italy came by a few weeks ago to record a new store mix in the series. He restricted himself, dug the jazz bins and selected deep spiritual music to light up our days . 

Volcov is a DJ and collector and music lover since the late 80s and has played all around Europe, USA and Japan. He founded the record labels Archive in 1997, Neroli in 2000 and SJNRL in 2003. He lived in London during the drum & bass and broken beat heydays, today he resides back home in Verona, and is part of the strongly growing Sounds Familiar crew.

Patrick Gibin aka TwICE came down to our store to record a mix on the spot. The British Italian dug deeper than the obvious and selected us a bunch of hidden beauties, like overlooked album songs. This guy knows what's up!

UK born DJ, producer and record collector living in Italy, Gibin started his own record label Blend it! in 2011 with the first release of his successful and sought after Black Aroma edits series. His dj sets cover a wide range of genres, styles and tempos, from old to new sounds, all put together in an original and fresh blend.

Store Mix 008 | Jamie 3:26 Digs Rush Hour

Just before the closure of or good ol’ store, we were honored to receive Shanti Celeste for a mix. The young Chile born, Bristol based artist brought a few friends and they went for a proper dig. It was her first visit to our store and she ran into a lot of stuff she wanted for a while. Wonderful! 

Shanti Celeste is a core member of Bristol’s Idle hands crew, placed firmly at the epicentre of Bristol's currently buoyant house music scene. From her work as a producer, DJ, vocalist, label-owner and promoter, she has already proved her salt as a multi-talented artist over a short period of time. Something we definitely taste from this mix!

One of the many Japanese guests who traveled far to join the Rainbow Disco Club x Somewhere In Amsterdam evening dance, was Kikiorix. During that evening he blessed us with two hours of Japanese rarities and much more. A beautiful set of music that we're happy to share here.

Kikiorix is Tresvibes' resident DJ. He is mainly active in Japan, but his style has been influenced due to playing out in east London in the earlier days.

"So I really don't have to bring any records?", Kai Alce asked again just before coming down to the store. The rules of the game seemed pretty unusual to him, which he enjoyed a lot. The result didn't only surprise us, but also himself. After digging the bins, he selected only a few tracks he knew. It became a nicely flowing mix, which - again - displays the rich musicality of Detroit's house music tradition. And goes beyond.

Kai Alce was born in New York City, grew up in Detroit and eventually moved to Atlanta. Although last mentioned city is not particularly famous for house music, Alce is one of Atlanta's mainstays of keeping soulful house alive in the city. As well on his NDATL imprint as on Detroit based outlets as Mahogani and FXHE, Alce has released acclaimed musical house in the past decades.

Italy's Gigi Testa was in town and ready to select versatile records from RH's versatile shop for a mix. Expect in this 1+ hour mix what Testa does best!

Gigi Testa channels his vast musical taste and knowledge in his own music. Influenced by many cultures and musical styles, he focusses on the deep, noticeably influenced by living legends as Joe Claussell, Ron Trent and Louie Vega. He runs his World Peace Music label and has collaborated with renowned vocalists Kenny Bobien and Joi Cardwell.

Store Mix 027 I Gigi Testa Digs Rush Hour

To have Marcellus Pittman as our guest for a RH store mix with records he has never heard before was pretty electrifying. The living legend from Detroit took the opportunity to have a proper browse in the shop and see where it would go…  

As a production artist and selector, Pittman has helped to define an integral part of the Detroit sound. When other children were playing combat with G.I. Joe action figures in the early 80’s, Detroit native Marcellus “Malik” Pittman was playing his radio at maximum volume, listening to the sounds of “the Wizzard” and the “Electrifying Mojo”, in addition to the jazz outputs of Rosetta Hines.

In 1993, Malik released his initial work of production with local Hip-Hop collective “Home Grown”. Shortly thereafter, he released “Essential Selections, Vol. 1” on the Sound Signature label, headed by Theo Parrish. In 1998, Malik forged a working relationship with Rick Wilhite, Theo Parrish and Kenny “Moodymann” Dixon, collectively known as the 3 Chairs. Pittman is currently heading his own label, Unirhythm, which will release his upcoming projects.
