Under his Awanto 3 guise, Steven van Hulle has long been considered a producer with immense potential. Now, he’s finally delivered on that promise with Opel Mantra, his stunning debut album.

To be released across three 12” singles between now and March (with all of the tracks to be collected together on CD at a later date), Opel Mantra twists house music into intoxicating new shapes, fusing a myriad of global influences into one thrilling, surprising whole. This is clandestine, atmospheric deep house as you’ve never heard it before. And boy, does it sound good.

Anyone with a keen interest in the Amsterdam electronic music scene will be familiar with van Hulle’s work. He’s already released a number of acclaimed solo singles on Rush Hour (his loose-limbed, decidedly cosmic debut, For Five, appeared in 2010), alongside highly regarded collaborations with fellow Dutch producers Tom Trago (under the Alfabet alias), Young Marco and San Proper. To date, though, his output has been limited to a handful of inspired productions.

Having had a glimpse of his talents, Opel Mantra proves his credentials once and for all. This first 12” in the series offers more than enough proof. Bristling with humid atmospheres, voodoo rhythms and tropical grooves, it fuses heavy African and South American influences with contemporary deep house sounds and grooves.

E Go Betta is the third single to be taken from Dele Sosimi’s latest LP You No Fit Touch Am. The album has received huge praise from Okay Africa, Clash Magazine and Songlines, and radio support from stations as diverse as Rinse FM and BBC 6Music. This single is a straight up dance floor monster, made even more foot friendly by a very cunning re-edit courtesy of rising star O’Flynn (Blip Recordings).

Born in Hackney, East London, but soon to return to his parents’ native Nigeria at the age of four, Dele Sosimi was schooled and raised in Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s shadow at the height of early 70s afrobeat. Having been chosen by Fela to join his band at somewhat of a tender age, he was still a young man when sharing Fela’s Glastonbury stage in 1984, and became both Musical Director for both Fela’s Egypt 80 and Femi Kuti’s Positive Force.

After Fela’s passing in 1997, Dele went on to concentrate on his own solo career and, with diligent patience, carved out his own Afrobeat crown. In London, where he now resides, his Afrobeat Vibration all-nighters are charged with his passion, labours and his unrelenting spirit and deliver Fela classics alongside his own compositions from his first two studio albums, Turbulent Times, and Identity.

London’s new Afrobeat king is here to party and you’re all welcome to join in!

We have very few informations about this release on "Transatlantyk" label but when its labelhead Zambon, the man also behind "The Polish Cut Outs", releases something we tend to be very curious as it hardly disappoints ! This one makes no exception ; 4 edits by the warsaw digger legend DJ Dook that many consider as the best disco dj in Poland. We chose to premiere "Togo Disco" a warm-up weapon, road tested over the years by Transatlantyk crew, which never fails to amaze. Tough and raw Afro disco cut from late 70's is being extended here for maximum dancefloor utility. Record is already out in Poland & in Berlin (at Oye) and should hit the world anytime soon, enjoy !!

Up next on Phonica Premieres is a seriously groovy cut from International Soleil Band off the new Soundway 12".  Ta Lassa is an '80s West African Disco crossover from the International Soleil band straight outta Guinea. Composed by Gnamakoron Sidi Diabaté it was originally featured on an album released in 1983 by French Warners offshoot WAM (West African Music) - a short lived label that recorded about 20 releases of West African music released in France. Also Featuring Mory Djely Kouyate this track was a staple of the 22 band's repertoire in the 1970s (in which many of the ISB played) - famous for their recordings on the legendary state-run Editions Syliphone label. We've decided to premiere the extended (DJ friendly) Hide & Smile edit on the A side. There's throbbing bass and keyboard interplay punctuated by classic Guinee guitar lines, metronomic drumming and 80s synth sweeps eventually drops into a more recognisable Guinean vocal outing.
