rusker - Grief

Recorded at I.D's in Greville St. Prahran late 87'. 
We were supporting Sean Bowley's (4AD style) band, EDEN. Grumpy Martin at the mixing desk. 
Defenestration often had trouble with sound engineers (and venue management); usually we had the inimitable Robert Bursill on the controls, his technique was simultaneously intensively scientific & totally unhinged.
Repetition, improvisation & chaos; all at crushing volume.
Members on this occasion were; Jason Florence, Ingo Wieben, Anton ZW Fish & Andrew Rusker.

Defenestration used the same dozen or so song titles over & over again.
Sometimes re-constructions of the same songs & sometimes completely different ones. 
For thee love ov chaos.
This is a fairly unhinged version of "Kill Kennedy Again". With fragments of other versions popping up near the end.

Very early recordings, 1985. Akai 2-track, delay pedal & cassette tapes. All one take, no over-dubs or post production. Jason, Marty & Sandra feature on some tracks. It's a sonic diary of sorts; this was a major activity in my early 20's. After deep listening, I'm finding that much 'acceptable' material that was commercially OK in the 80's is quite unlistenable now & what was considered 'difficult' then, has gained a timeless quality. Dreamy, surreal & minimalist. Blessings to all who have encouraged & supported me over the years.

Part of an evening entitled "Soundtracks for Imaginary Films". 
I constructed my first ever video to accompany the audio. 
An abstract vision of several volcanoes I have visited. 
This was my first live performance in over 20 years & it was very well received.

Not that funneled in by label, clique or creative place-making. 
However, the title 'rusker27' isn't really representative of the expansiveness of thee presented material. There is no way of noticing that there is an actual 'institute27'. (hence the name change).

In particular & as defined by Declan O'Gallagher, DEATHGUM manifested 38 years ago. which is described as  DEATHGUM 1984 (Esoteric, Noise, Avant-Pop, Post-Punk, Ritualistic, DIY, Ambient, Industrial, ElectroAcoustic, Acousmatic, Rock & proto-Techno).
Dreamlike, hermetic & surrealist.
