Hunter/Game

Balance is the key to Hunter/Game's music. It's part of growing up in Milan - a sophisticated urban centre for film, fashion and art, but whose inhabitants relish the contrast of spending reflective time in the nature that surrounds the city. Having been part of Milan's techno scene since its first days, the duo of Emmanuele Nicosia and Martino Bartola now find themselves equally influenced by the city and by nature - making music that harnesses the urban propulsion of techno within an introspective, thoughtful take on melody.
It started in 2010 with the "Just This" parties. Hunter/Game's own party, held in secret locations round the city, Just This has made Milan a compulsory stop for the touring electronic artist - from early shows that focused on local acts like Mind Against and Tale Of Us, growing to far bigger events with names like Dixon, Seth Troxler, Koze, Tennis and other DJs in Hunter/Game's worldwide scene. And alongside the parties, the duo have released on Innervisions, Rumours, Last Night on Earth, My Favourite Robot, Hot Creations and Dynamic - with a Kompakt release in early 2015 - and each EP has earned more fans for their lush, deep-grooved analogue soundscapes.
In 2015, alongside a heavy Europe and North American touring schedule, Hunter/Game will open the doors of the new Just This vinyl label. Distributed by Kompakt, the label opens with the leftfield electronic dance stylings of Danish-Icelandic band Primal, a Hunter/Game release, and another to come within five months. With a stylistic approach that leans toward Hunter/Game's own, Just This releases are aimed at the discerning dancefloor, but are as influenced by the wild ambition of 80s electronic acts as by contemporary analogue production techniques.
But even with this worldwide success, Milan is still the base. Having painstakingly helped grow the local scene, Hunter/Game see themselves as responsible for keeping the energy of Just This going. As other DJs have moved away - and despite Hunter/Game's regular slots at key international clubs like Fabric, The Edge, Warung, Output, Wilde Renate and Studio 80 - the duo see that combination of urban and country, and sophistication and lucidity, as critical to their inspiration and their future experiments with sound...

The latest release on Movement Recordings finds label boss Tash teaming up with Stas Drive for their first collaborative EP. Hailing from Greece and the Ukraine respectively, both Tash and Stas Drive have enjoyed continued success in their solo careers. When not organizing Greece's hottest events, Movement label boss Tash is heads down in the studio with his work earning regular support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. Meanwhile, Stas Drive's organic blend of deep house, techno and nu-progressive styles has found a home on Chapter 24, Bad Pony and Motek Music. The duo's debut EP 'Adam & Eve' has been much anticipated and with interpretations from Tone Depth and Petar Dundov it looks set to be one of this year's best releases.

The lone interpretation of 'Adam' is provided by Tone Depth who is making his first appearance on Movement Recordings. Perhaps best known for his ‘Rumblefish’ production released courtesy of John Digweed’s Bedrock Records, Tone Depth has returned to the underground in major way following a long hiatus. EP’s for Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music and his own Bad Pony imprint have been sensational and he’s delivered an excellent rendition of ‘Adam’ here. With a tougher, more techno inspired approach the Canadian artist provides a perfect complement to the more progressive minded original. It's stripped framework sets a spacious backdrop with the main motifs getting represented well throughout the eight minute journey. A revamped effects narrative keeps your attention locked while a sizzling build out of the main break seals it's dance floor appeal. A wonderful remix from Tone Depth.

Belgium’s OGASM label continues to carve out a niche for itself with its third EP. This one again comes from the label boss PROPE, with remixes from a smart selections of names including Dusty Kid, Matchy & Bott and Seb Legrand.

Thierry Botteman and Pierre Dozin are PROPE. Between them they are veterans of the 90s dance scene who have worked with major labels like Universal as well as being ghost producers for everyone from Royksopp to Groove Armada. They’ve made drum & bass and trip hop, played live shows all over the world with names such as Robert Glasper and Fela’s Egypt80 and so have vast reserves of musical understanding on which to draw on for this new project, which “merges subtle stellar ambiance and vibes, deep harmonies, and heavy effective drops.”

Their lead track here is ‘Excite’, an intense bit of drone-heavy techno that gets you in a trance. The hunched drums are metallic in texture, the long synths take you down the rabbit hole and the closely stacked claps power things along as you slowly lose your mind. A ‘deep mix’ version gives more height and life to the drums, switching it to more of a house vibe, with stellar synths darting about up top.

Italian artist, Isolade label boss and long time underground figure Dusty Kid is the first to remix. His innovative version is a melodic affair that reaches out into the cosmos and will get hands in the air as it slowly unfolds.

Next up are Match & Bott who are no strangers to big hits. The Mainz pair have crafted plenty of them before now on labels like Hive Audio, Moonbootique and Stil Vor Talent, and here they have done so again with a moody, deep version that zones you out with hi hats and gets you moving with forceful drums.

Last of all, 1605 and Yorube Grooves techno specialist Seb Legrand keeps up the intensity with a big version filled with long, meandering synths and little fx and details. It’s another groove driven roller to lock in the whole floor.

With this release, both PROPE and OGASM prove they are on the rise.

TECH HOUSE, TECHNO, HOUSE!

BORN AND RAISED IN EUROPE. 80's child ;). GREW UP TO ORIGINAL HOUSE & TECHNO STRAIGHT FROM THE E.U. Always had a deep passion and love for music. The sensation it brought was & always will be "indescribable." According to making we only acquire 5 senses as human beings. I beg to differ!

At a very young age I began attending venues and underground nightclubs. Just to hear my favorite DJ's and Producer's mix and vibe with the crowd. I would pay attention to how different sets and DJ's would use each beat and transition, along with mixing to produce that unique "harmonic vibe & flow."

I kept my ears open to their entire set. Their creation of the "vibe" & their ability to get your entire mind, body and soul into their minds, souls, and not to forget, hands...

My friends, along with recognized producers and DJ's would and still do get amazed on how I have the ability to pick up certain sounds, notes, waves etc. 

I believe this industry requires major talent. More so, a "natural talent".

I'm a huge believer in harmonic vibrations and waves. Go with the flow & setting of the/your venue & the/your crowd. Then simply just.... vibe with them, and create the bond to allow them to vibe with you. 

It's all a spiritual thing. A mind, body and soul sensation. Psychology is a huge factor & having the ability to pick up & "feel", as well as "understand" & recognize certain senses we cannot define as humans. They come as natural & are unique to each & every single individual existing.

 I call it a "spiritual vibration." As do many other producers and industry DJ's.
