‘PEOPLE PEOPLE’ is a defiant but deeply humane account of a reunion between two friends who meet again whilst waiting in queue at the local council office.  At face value this is no more than a casual conversation but beneath it runs layer upon layer of political context, personal truths and poignant social comments that become ever more raw as the track snowballs into an out and out call to arms. Begging the question that’s on all of our lips - 
When is enough enough? 
But despite the dystopia, genuine warmth emanates from this track, as the tone of Ruth’s delivery exudes hope at every twist and turn, enabling the social narrative to teeter between futility and ferocity without losing its sense of humour or our sense of Ruth’s own humility. The rewarding chorus, rich with male backing vocals, reaches out to the listener, like a hug for the ears, allowing the desperation of the situation to evaporate and a well earned sense of human kindness to prevail.

Full Metal Jacket is a bitter sweet song about the art of revenge.  The song takes you on an epic physical and emotional journey which increasingly dwarfs the traumatic experiences of the past in to insignificance until finally a true and whole freedom is discovered.

When Ruth started the search for a producer to collaborate with on a fourth album she came to the attention of Todd Sickafoose who had recently produced Anais Mitchell's widely acclaimed 'Hadestown'. Not coincidentally Todd divides his time between production work and playing bass for American Folk legend Ani DiFranco for whom Ruth opened two solo London shows in 2012.  The fruits of that collaboration, an album named “Cactacus”, is released on September 23rd in a collaboration between River Rat and Aveline Records.

Songwriter, performer and producer Ruth Theodore has released a string of critically acclaimed records to date. The latest two records are fruits of a longstanding collaboration with Tony award winning US producer and bassist Todd Sickafoose (Ani Difranco/Anais Mitchell) and Swiss American percussionist Mathias Kunzl (Regina Spektor). Starting her musical career aged 14 busking in doorways on detuned guitars Ruth has gone on to perform her songs and tour alongside legendary international artists such as grammy award winning folk singers Ani Difranco, Dar Williams, Jeff Lang, Hamell On Trial and Nick Harper and more,  for packed out venues including The London Palladium, Bush Hall, The Union Chapel, The Borderline and Glastonbury Festival.
