Tear Those Frequencies Mix (March 2014)

At 16 RVWR (real name Lemuel Witbooi) got his hands on production software and he’s spent the last 8 years honing his skills as a beat maker. “I would classify what I make and play as bass music” he explains, “I love a good 808 kick drum, if it makes my room rattle, even better.”

 “Writing this track was a really exciting process” says RVWR,“I wrote 90% of it on a binge writing session one night and only ended up sleeping at 4am. I went in to Red Bull Studios the following Tuesday and started recording with Shamon Cassette. He has tons of energy; I literally can’t remember how many takes we recorded. He wrote the lyrics on the couch behind me in studio while I was semi-mixing and arranging the song - super productive. I’m really proud of the final track.”
“I don’t tuck my chains” says Brooklyn-based MC Shamon Cassette as he talks explains the ideas behind the lyrics, “I feel comfortable wherever I go otherwise I wouldn’t go there. The song ‘Pick Pocket’ stemmed from a conversation I had with a Capetonian who suggested I tuck my chains and watch out for pick pockets on the street - this became an ongoing thing with friends and others reminding me of the criminal activity that goes down and the risk of being a pickpocket victim. I’ve lived in Iraq for 2 years - so a man that could look me in my eye and stick his hands in my pocket is the least of all my fears.”

RVWR is one of the most underrated and unexpected producers and DJs in the South African Electronic music scene.

I would classify what I make and play as Bass Music, which technically speaking isn’t in a box or have a genre of its own. I love a good 808 Kick Drum.

The Mad Decent Block Party (2014), Cold Turkey, Assembly and Sideshow are all clubs that have rocked to his skills and with the amount of music that is about to come out of his production lab you can be assured heads are going to start turning worldwide

Production wise he has previously worked with Gravy, Bombaada, On A Break and Do Work Records and he also turned heads with his track Dino which was featured in GQ magazine.
