Songs from a new release that I'm working on. Hear them here first, with glorious vinyl LP sound.

After playing in Keys for a Cause 2, a tribute to Keith Emerson in February of 2023, I redid bass tracks on Resolute, Wavelengths and For the Glory. I found a setting on the dp3x that I'd dialed in in 2018 and loved, but then forgot how I had the knobs set. When I found the setting I'd lost, I knew that I'd have to redo the bass tracks. 
After that I did my cover of "To Build  Home". I'd recorded the instruments except the lead guitar and vocal at least two years ago, and decided it's time to finish that song. I might put it on the next release with these songs. Maybe. 
 I've just finished (for now) "One Last Voyage", December 31st, 2023

I may record an instrumental track or two on the next release.

Progressive Rock original songs 2019-2024

Latest and "final" version of a song I wrote in 1998 and recorded various versions of since then. In this version I put the verses in 7/8 time rather than 4/4. I changed some lyrics and melodies. All instruments and vocals were redone, nothing from previous versions was reused. The bass and rhythm guitars were recorded in summer and fall of 2020, lead guitars in late 2020, and vocals and other guitars in spring 2021. Main lead guitar parts were redone in spring 2022. Elaine sang vocal harmonies in the choruses in late winter 2023. Vocals for verses 1 and 2 were redone in spring 2022, and again in late winter 2023. The bass was redone in April 2023 because I found a setting on the dp3x that sounded totally better than the one I used originally.
The rhythm guitars were a Hamer Vintage S and a Hamer Studio. They went through ARC Klone and J Rockett Rockaway overdrive pedals and into a clean Peavey Wiggy amp.
The E Bow guitars are a pair of Hamer Studios, played through a Way Huge Conquistador Fuzztortion into a clean Peavey Wiggy amp.
The clean guitar in the verses is a Hamer Chapparal plugged into the clean channel of my Carvin Legacy.
The main lead guitar is a PRS 305 through a Stomp Under Foot 1973 V1 Ram's Head Muff. The amp was a Hiwatt DR103. 
The guitar trading licks with the main lead guitar at the end was a Hamer Sunburst played into a Carvin Legacy amp. 
The bass is a 1978 Rickenbacker 4001 played through a Tech 21 dp3x preamp/compressor/EQ/overdrive.

Synths and keyboards use include Arturia Solina V, OBXA V, B3 V, CZ V, G Force Oddity, Steinberg Padshop 2 and Z3ta 2.

Wavelengths 2021

A dreamy song with some dream pop guitar tones, about a dream lover. 
The chord progression for the middle instrumental/guitar solo section was composed by Terry Michaels of the band Lyndenthal.
The bass is a Music Man Bongo fretless 5 string recorded direct through a Tech 21 RPM preamp.
The lead guitar is a PRS DC3, through a Stomp Under Foot 1973 V1 Ram's Head Muff for the middle section solo, and a Stomp Under Foot Red Menace for the harmony guitars at the end. Lead guitars were all played through a Hiwatt DR103 amp. 
The chorused "soft focus" rhythm guitars are an MJ Groovemaster recorded through Keeley Loomer, Realizer and Dyno My Roto pedals and a Hafler Triple Giant preamp.
The E Bow guitars are a Hamer Studio played through a Way Huge Conquistador Fuzztortion, an Electro Harmonix Epitom3 and into a Sansamp. 
The clean guitar in the verses is a Hamer Chapparal, recorded direct through a Hafler Triple Giant guitar preamp. 
Synths used include Arturia OB XA V, Steinberg Retrologue, G Force M Tron Pro and Korg Mono Poly, plus the Una Corda piano in the little interlude toward the end of the song.

The song was composed in 2019, some rewriting in early 2022, verses rewritten in summer 2022. Vocal, bass and guitar tracks were recorded in summer-fall 2022. Mixed in fall 2022.

Dream Eternities

Tony Jefferson played drums on this track.
I played bass, guitars, all synths, and sang all vocals. I recorded almost parts over summer of 2019.
I redid the bass in early April 2023. The bass is a 1990's Hamer Cruise Bass 5 string recorded direct through a Tech 21 dp3x preamp/compressor/overdrive/EQ. I think the tone is greatly improved over what I got in 2019. What do you think? 
The distorted rhythm guitar is a Gibson Buckethead signature Les Paul Studio through a Peavey TripleXXX combo amp.
The guitar in the intro and outro solos is also the Gibson Buckethead Les Paul Studio through a Carvin Legacy amp and Mesa speaker cab. The clean toned lead guitar after the last chorus is also the Gibson Buckethead Les Paul Studio through the Carvin Legacy.
The lead guitar in the middle section is a PRS 305, played through a Stomp under Foot 1973 V10 Ram's Head pedal and Skreddy Dynamic Mids Enhancer, into a Hiwatt DR103 amp.
The clean rhythm guitars are also a PRS 305.
For the heavily flanged and chorused guitars in the chorus, a 1970s Renaissance guitar was used.
For the rhythmic delay stuff in the opening half of the solo section, a Hamer Studio was played for the lower harmony, and Arturia Prophet V was used for the upper harmony.
The harmony guitars in the first half of the solo section are a Gibson Buckethead signature Les Paul Studio played through a Carvin Legacy with a Mesa speaker cab.
Most guitar and bass parts were recorded over summer of 2019. A few parts such as the lead guitar solo in the middle and the rhythm guitars in the chorus were redone in December 2021/January 2022.

Fall On My Feet

This is a song that I wrote while I was a worship leader in Mequon, WI.  This was a worship song that the nondenominational church sang on a regular basis during their services.  This is a rough home recording made about 20 years ago.  (7 second delay at the beginning of the recording!)

A sad song about the never ending struggle of work/life balance.
The rhythm guitar was an EBMM Reflex with game changer and a Peavey Penta amp.
The clean guitars were a Hamer Vintage S through Strymon DIG delay.
The ambient guitar at the beginning of the ending section is a Hamer Chapparal through a Strymon Time Line.
The lead guitar in the last section is a PRS 305 through a Stomp under Foot '73 Ram's Head V10, into a Hiwatt DR103 amp.
The E Bow guitars were a Hamer Studio.
The guitar used in the solo in the middle and the transition section after that is an EBMM JP16.
The bass guitar was a Hamer Cruise Bass 5 string.
Synths used included Arturia Solinatron V, Steinberg Retrologue, IK Multimedia Syntronik playing a Taurus bass synth preset, Arturia Mellotron V, Korg M1, Waldorf PPG 2.V.

Thanks to long time friend John Roberts for letting me noodle on his DX7 back in 1987. That is where I came up with the ending part of this song, on that then-impressive pipe organ preset. All these years I thought "That would make a great ending for a song" but could never figure out what to put it after.

The guitars, bass and vocals were all recorded January - April 2022. Drum programming happened in March 2022.

Cardington

An instrumental progressive rock track with harmony guitar melodies, lush synths and vintage keyboards, odd time signatures, lead guitars trading licks, and Rickenbacker bass. 
I plan to release this one on an upcoming album of similar songs. The song dates back to 1988 when I came up with parts of it, then arranged it as you hear it today in 1990/1991. I have rehearsed this song with a band intending to record it, recorded early versions of it in my home studio in 2000 and 2004, and now I recorded this "final release" version. Everything you hear was recorded over winter 2020/2021. I did not reuse tracks from previous versions. I redid the bass in March or April 2023.

The bass was a Rickenbacker 4003SW.
The harmony and lead guitars were a PRS 305 and PRS DC3, played through Stomp Under Foot muff clone pedals, and a Hiwatt DR103 amplifier. 
One of the lead guitars in the ending trading leads section is an Ernie Ball Music Man Y2D played through a Reason Bambino amp for one solo and a Carvin Legacy amp for another. 
The acoustic guitars are an Adamas.
Synths used include Arturia SEM V and MS20V, Korg T1 and Polysix, Steinberg Padshop 2, a hardware Oberheim Matrix 6R, and Mellotron strings and choir by Arturia Mellotron V.

Resolute 2021

A page that started out back around 2010 with Rob posting blues, rock, country and pop tunes recorded with fellow musicians and singers, and a few on which Rob does all vocals, guitars and bass, and EZ Drummer plays drums.
Since 2019, Rob  has been devoting all his musical energies to writing and recording progressive rock. Fewer songs but more elaborate compositions and fancier playing.
There are tracks from other projects/bands Rob plays in here too.
