The Twist (Intro)

This song is a thank you song to my *hero* dentist; Miss Connelly, and her two lovely assistants Georgie and Charlene.

Over the past year I have had 22 appointments, 8 teeth extractions, several major fillings, deep cleaning, desensitization, and counselling to get over my fear of dentists and surgery, in an attempt to get my smile back and have a healthy mouth.

It has been a journey full of tears and anxiety, and a pinch of courage just to work as a team to restore me and my smile to its happy place.

I wrote Smiling Underneath to highlight just how utterly terrified I was of the dentist, and to highlight how my last dentist really took away my confidence using remarks such as "disaster area" when referencing my mouth. It really affected me and made me lose hope. Thankfully a fire began to build in my stomach and eventually I was determined after years of hard work and plucking up my courage, (and meeting the right dentist for me), to go and get a smile to be proud of.

This song, Laughing Out Loud, is the sister-song to Smiling Underneath, and it is the end of the story. The happy ever after. The thank you to my current dentist who has spent so much care and time and effort and patience with me, to get me to where I am now. She has never hurt me once, and she is my absolute HERO. She has changed my life and given me hope once more. Laughing Out Loud is my thank you to her, for getting me to a place where I am no longer scared of dentists. I beat my darkest demons thanks to her faith in me, and now I can smile with no gremlins or baggage or self-doubt whatsoever. <3

If Miss Connelly says it will be alright,

It’s not nearly as bad as I thought it would be,
