Fish Grazing

The Fish Finesser uses audio technology combined with animal psychology to attract fish from all areas. Fish naturally being curious creatures are attracted to sounds that closely resemble cues from their environments. By replicating these sounds underwater, the Fish Finesser can be used as a call to invite specific fish into its presents. The Fish Finesser is made by attaching foam pieces to a shower speaker and adding a light on the top for easy night use. The true magic of this product is in the audio features. By combining underwater sounds with audio cues and using knowledge of acoustics and the fundamentals of underwater sound we are able to engineer the perfect calls for finessing fish of any species. 

Today, there aren’t many fish calls on the markets and the ones that do exist don't take important variables like sound velocity, pressure, temperature, or salinity into consideration. This call takes it to the next level by using an algorithm to correct for these factors, making the perfect sounds to attract fish. Also unlike many of our competitors, the Fish Finesser is not targeted toward sport fishing. Instead this product is focused towards saving the marine ecosystem. By placing Fish Finessers in MPA (marine protected areas) they can be used to attract overfished fisheries deep into MPA’s where they will be free to mate far from commercial fishing vessels. The Fish Finesser can also be used as and aid by research vessels to help attract specific fish for tagging. In addition, the audio software developed for this project can be used by fish farming hatcheries. A recent study in Japan indicated that fish can be taught behavior through audio cues. By inducing fish to a certain chime before they eat at random intervals the fish become classically conditioned to the chime and associate it with food. In the study, fish were let into the ocean after being classically conditioned and upon hearing the chime the fish returned. By using Fish Finesser’s audio technology hatcheries can classically condition fish to return back to their hatchery by playing the chime. This significantly diminishes the amount of waste that the fish produce in the hatchery, while also promoting muscle growth through open water swimming creating a better farmed product.

How does the audio technology work? Typically animal calls have been created by replicating the natural noises of different species of animals, but with fish it's a little more complicated than that. Because under water sound travels faster than in the air the velocity of the calls must be adjusted for. For example, at room temperature (68F) sound will travel 3,170 mph in the water as opposed to 740 mph in the air. To find the perfect decibel to project sounds to attract fish you have to find the perfect sound intensity. Sound intensity is equal to 10 Log(I1/I0) where I1=  measured intensity level (watt/m^2) and I0= reference intensity level (watt/m^2). Even with the intensity level calculated out it must be proportional to the sound pressure level. This is calculated by SPL=10 Log(P1^2/P0^2) where P1= measured pressure level and P0=reference pressure level. By using these equations and adjusting minorly for temperature the right sound can be forged for the specific needs of our customers.
