Amsterdam, one of electronic music’s most bustling hubs has plenty of gems, iconic and hidden – special cafes, an infamous, world-renowned red light district, a vibrant art scene and handful of underground clubs with some of the techno world’s most celebrated sound systems. And immersed within it and one of its best-kept secrets, is South Netherlands-born, Belgium-raised and Amsterdam based Nicky Elisabeth, who after joining Cologne’s Kompakt label, earning a residency at @demarktkantine and winning Bumble’s first ‘Making Moves in Music’ title, can’t keep out of the spotlight for too long. After a busy end to 2019 and the announcement of her joining DGTL’s 2020 roster, and shortly before a few highly anticipated gigs with techno heavyweights such as Stephan Bodzin and Kolsch, Nicky catches her breath, and takes a moment to chat with Torture the Artist and casts an hour of carefully selected and beautifully sown tracks – a glimpse of pure, passion driven talent that has already made a mark in a local scene, but has only just began.

Interview

A few weeks ago, not long after we all went into lockdown, I decided to put together a mix, but I wanted it to be a little different from all of the mixes that were frequently popping up on social media. With that in mind I involved you in the process and asked for your suggestions of some of your favourite tracks from the past until now which I would include in the mix.

I was overwhelmed by the shear numbers of suggestions you put forward -  far too many to include all in one mix. However, I spent lot of time and love on the final mix, trying to create a special journey instead of just listing tracks that really stood out to me.

Digging through many old records like this, putting the mix together became quite emotional for me and it reminded me why I fell in love with electronic music in the first place.  It brought back many fond memories too. 
I really hope you enjoy listening to the results as much I did and I hope it stirs some memories, whether it be chills, smiles, tears or laughs for you all too.

Lockdown Love

Having collaborated for their The Moon Landing Was A Hoax EP on Mike Simonetti's 2MR label a couple of months ago, Keinemusik mainstay and Riotvan companion Reznik and Mikesh team up for the next Keinemusik EP, Human Factor, and also deliver the latest episode of the art:cast special series. Besides giving us a sneak peak into their upcoming EP Mikesh and Reznik compiled and mixed the art:cast in a back to back-manner offering diverse and eclectic insights into their individual musical being as well as their mutual dealing with each other's approach. The result is a mix that skilfully encompasses various genres and influences yet flows smoothly from start to finish  as it combines, captures and portrays different moods and atmospheres. Reznik and Mikesh's unique characteristic though is that the duo has decided to come up with a rather clubby set, which has become a 2020 curiosity if not to say rarity but just emphasizes the strive of most to go back to a time before the pandemic and dance their daily sorrows away to music that works foremost but not explicitly in this context just how Mikesh and Reznik show us.
