Sono Quel Che Sono is dedicated to Salvatore Sciarrino, with whom I studied briefly. During one of my lessons Maestro Sciarrino said to me that I was 'thinking old', or as I inferred, being old fashioned. This inspired me to write a piece that would combine 18th and 20th century styles, creating a synthesis of old and new. Sono Quel Che Sono, or 'I am what I am', proved to be one of my most defining pieces, personally and compositionally.
