Program notes:
This whimsical take on “The Trials” comes about as a result of my love for the tragically-lost Alexandrov Ensemble, previously (and more famously) known as the Red Army Choir.  Something about the original theme felt vaguely Russian, and I decided to run with it, collaborating with lyricist (and Al Bhed linguist) Ian Luckey to craft a compelling folktale set within the FFX universe.  Featuring a full orchestra, men’s choir, as well as yours truly as tenor soloist, Bemknesyka was a joy to see brought to life.

"Prelude to the Afternoon of a Shoopuf" is a take on "Ride ze Shoopuf" from Final Fantasy X, originally by Nobuo Uematsu, drawing on inspiration from Claude Debussy's "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun." It utilizes a woodwind quintet (consisting of flute, oboe, English horn, clarinet, and bassoon) and harp to depict the afternoon in which Tidus and company ride the beloved shoopuf.

I'm a composer for video games like Gunpoint, Frog Fractions 2, Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, and more.

I love working in music for games because it's the only medium where the audience gets to interact with what they're hearing. Creating music that needs to adapt to a player's actions is seriously the most challenging and rewarding thing about this job. Getting to write in a new styles every day, work in a community of genuinely awesome audio people, and combine my two favorite things (games and music) for a living does not get old.

Also buying games is a tax write off now, which is pretty rad.
