After a prolific year of making and releasing music, 2020 saw Murgatroyd collect accolades in a multitude of genres. Including some serious critical acclaim for his downtempo melodic anthem - Wooma and then the follow up, Khuzeka on Get Physical Music, which climbed the Beatport Afro House chart to break top 10. 


Ryan Murgatroyd returns in 2021 to his own imprint, Swoon Recordings, for the first in a series of new music. Close to Me, featuring the unearthed vocal talents of Amy Jones, is a 117 BPM smooth groover, pulsating with an entirely new palette of modular sounds, this soulful, thoughtful yet unbelievably groovy and uplifting piece of music is at home on the dancefloor or in the lounge. Of course, mixed in with Murgatroyd signature pianos and rolling basslines.

As the world of electronic music ground to a halt during the pandemic, Ryan Murgatroyd has kept his momentum of writing and releasing some of the freshest and most interesting electronic music on the planet. 


Now, returning to a soon to be post Covid world, he continues through his finest form with ‘Methane’. His third release of the new year, this record is about going back to the simplicity of hard-hitting but fun, hands-in-the-air music that welcomes back those dancefloor moments to eager audiences around the globe.


Not only has Murgatroyd become known for his genre-bending production but also for unearthing new, undiscovered vocal talents, and this release is no exception. 

Welcoming the sultry, swooning and truly unique vocals of Myburgh to the Swoon Stable, he lays down the hook of all hooks on this record and makes it a new anthem for dancefloors the world over. 


Speaking of the release, Murgatroyd mentioned “Some tracks just come together effortlessly and this is one of them! Myburgh and I got together one late night during the peak of lockdown (on Zoom, of course) and set out to write one of those classic house tracks that would be chanted on dance floors across the globe when the pandemic was over.  The sonic palette of this song is effortless, dance-able, big basses, shuffling drums and all the dirty squelch you can imagine. On top of the forward marching percussion and gritty sound design, Myburgh has laid down one of the catchiest, most memorable and addictive vocals of the year.”

"Into the Oblivion is the debut EP of syrian talent and Nie Wieder Schlafen homegrown Quatri. The project itself has been in a constant change for over half a year, re-working, scrapping and adding tracks to the EP – forming it to a true testament of his exceptional work as a 20-year old producer. „Faces" is an uplifting tune with a floating melody and ethnic vocal chops. The title track „Rubix" comes along with a groovy bassline and a more darker atmosphere while „Algorythm“ leads us more in the in the dreamy side of melodic techno.

Bursting on the scene in 2014 with his critically acclaimed Bantwanas Piano on Defected records, a record described by Dj Mag as a towering achievement in modern house music, South African legend Ryan Murgatroyd has continued in fine form with over 100 releases to his name, spanning labels as diverse as Get Physical, All Day I Dream, Purified, Still Vor talent, This never Happened and his own imprint Swoon Records. A musicians musician, he is a true student of the craft, and much of his work is truly transcendent of the cliches of 4/4 music.

Paving the way for countless electronic artists in South Africa, he pioneered a fusion of African and electronic elements long before the Afro House trend began, releasing the Ikalimba EP in 2015 to massive support from Solomon and countless others, and continuing to forge new sonic ground and help to place south african electronic music on the global map.

Sharing the boiler room stage with Black Coffee, Satori and Blondish in Amsterdam in 2018 he had a chance to showcase his unique sound, and incredible live performance, to the world, and from there the gates were open.

His 2019 smash hit Wicked Eyes was voted Record of the Summer in Ibiza that season, and was played on dance floors around the world but a list of heavy hitters and top 10 regulars.

His label Swoon Recordings continues to set the standard for underground electronic music parties, and top shelf releases with artists like Cioz, Atmos Blaq, Corpino and countless other local talents unearthed. While Murgatroyd took up residence in Mexico City in 2022, performing at some of CDMX’s biggest club nights and continuing to push new boundaries in the live performance, his best work is still to come.
