Kenoma (To Go Without Light)

Based on recording of an anxious rehomed cocker spaniel awaiting our return and howling the place down... her name is Tully. We’ve had her for five days. She is still very anxious about the huge change in her life. This recording was made because I was curious to see if she howled when we went out for an hour or so without her. A big “yes”.

I was going to do something a little more adventurous/interesting, but ended up just folding, compacting, cutting and reverbing a chunk of it. Also overlaid is a big furry sound. That’s the ambience of the house when she was silent. The odd ringing effect is because one track was pitched up and that5’s how it turned out – an Audacity accident.

Hey guys,

So I've decided to give away 2 tracks from my final University project as a free, 2 track EP. The idea behind the whole thing was to push my boundaries as both a composer and a producer, and so whilst they may not be 'EDM Bangers', they're personal to me and I believe show a side to me as a writer that you guys haven't seen before.

The entire project was titled 'An Exploration of Audio Manipulation', and for this track, I took 3 or 4 piano parts, all from another song of mine which is currently unreleased (piano played by Matt Vice, so go and check him out, INCREDIBLE producer and pianist) and tried to see how far I could push Ableton's warp modes to create different textures :)

Aokigahara forest is dense, shutting out all but the natural sounds of the forest itself. The forest has an historic association with demons in Japanese mythology, and it is a notoriously common suicide site. 

Duncan Ritchie explores the long journey to Aokigahara through soundscapes ripe with lonely pianos on textural backdrops.
